8/14/20 Update: Price was not in the dock at Preston Crown Court today for sentence. He appearedover the video link dressed in a white shirt & black waistcoat. After being convicted of her murder, Judge Mrs. Justice Yip lifted reporting restrictions allowing his identity to be published for the first time. The judge has praised the court staff, legal representative, jury & Price’s intermediary for ‘going above & beyond’ during the trial amid coronavirus restrictions & other challenges. She has also praised the dignity shown by both families. Prosecutor David McLachlan QC began his remarks at the start of the sentencing hearing. He said Price will be given a mandatory life sentence of detention. He said the starting point is 12 years due to the fact he was under 18 years old at the time of Lindsay’s murder. Mr. McLachlan said the aggravating features in the case are: significant degree of planning or premeditation & hiding and attempting to dismember Lindsay’s body. H also summarized the proceedings of the last 2 weeks. Sarah Birbeck's victim statement was read to the court. Defence barrister Mark Fenhalls QC addressed the judge. He said they agree that the starting point is 12 years in detention. Judge Amanda Justice Yip: "There is only one sentence for murder which is a mandatory life sentence. “A life sentence is just that. It maybe that the defendant is never released from custody. “If he is he will be on licence & likely to be recalled to prison for the rest of his life. “There has to be a minimum term he will serve before he can be considered for release.” The judge said: “The defendant's mental disorder cannot in any way excuse or explain his actions. “I have no doubt he knew what he was doing and knew it was terribly wrong.Mrs. Yip said: “The murder of a stranger in broad daylight with no rational explanation is horrifying to all members of society. “The random nature of the killing shows the defendant presents a very real risk to members of the public. “There will no doubt be a significant amount of work & full risk assessments before defendant’s potential release.” Judge: "You will serve a life sentence. "You will serve a minimum term of 16 years less the 348 days you have already served in custody. "Only then will the parole board decide if you are eligible for release. "Upon any release you will be on licence for the rest of your life.

6/22/20 Update: Busick waved his rights to a preliminary hearing today. A plea agreement may be pending. He’s scheduled to be back in court for arraignment July 15th, when he may enter a plea to accessory to murder. A representative with the District Attorney’s Office says as part of the deal, Busick will have to provide details leading to the whereabouts of Lauria & Ashley. It’s unclear how much prison time he will serve in exchange for that information. If that happens, could have sentencing in late August.
7/15/20 Update: Busick plead guilty in Craig County District Court in Vinita to accessory to murder; remaining charges were dropped per the agreement and he will be sentenced to 15 years, serving 10 years in Oklahoma Dept. of Corrections custody & five years under supervised release. An alternative sentence would leave Busick serving five years in prison if information he provides leads to the recovery of Ashley's & Lauria's remains. He would also serve five years of supervised release. Sentencing on 8/31/20.
8/17/20 Update: District Attorney Matt Ballard & prosecutor Isaac Shields said after the July 15 hearing at which Busick pleaded guilty that he already has provided some information & that there may be a provision for him to lead investigators to a location. Based on information from the only still-living suspect, authorities will be excavating an abandoned root cellar in the Tar Creek area of Ottawa County on Tuesday (8/18/20), searching for the remains of two Craig County teenagers who have been missing for 20 years & are presumed dead. He was sentenced to 15 years, to serve 10 years in Oklahoma Dept. of Corrections custody & five years on supervised release. His formal sentencing is set for Aug. 31, and his sentence is to be slashed in half if Busick provides information leading to the recovery of the girls’ remains. 8/18/20 Update: Nothing was found.
