Truck tailgate makes other drivers think woman is being kidnapped

test market for decals portraying victims of violent crime?

I guess it would be kinda interesting to see who the idiots are who would buy such a product
Sadly I know some who would.
They would see it as 'freedom' statement against political correctness and 'fema-nazi's'.
I wish I was kidding.
Do you think this company would even bother doing a test run with this trash if they didnt KNOW there was a market for it?

Miley was glorifying a woman owning her own sexuality, arguably in a way that was unconvincing and tacky.

This decal is glorifying a woman being victimized, with the promise of worse to come.

I don't actually believe you can't see the difference.
I wouldnt equivocate Miley's performance with this Mysogynistic piece of garbage but I think using the word 'glorifying' for an episode of Talentless Narcistic Panic is giving it WAY too much credit.

This reminds me of the recent flurry of upset in India when an Indian marketing company choose "tied up women" as the gimick for showing off how large interior was.

I actually kind of find it funny. I'll see myself out now. Please only throw rotten tomatoes, they are softer and don't hurt as much.

Neither do I. However, I appreciate shock humor. Had it been a real woman, I would have felt a lot differently. But there's no violence at all in this. It's a picture. A staged picture of a willing participant.
You don't know that the model was willing, and it looks extremely realistic, especially from a distance. And it's promoting violence, no joke there!

People driving behind this truck can be fooled into thinking an actual woman is being kidnapped. Call 911. Somebody might end up getting hurt because of this. This is not funny. This is not a joke.

Any vehicle modification could potentially be distracting enough to cause a wreck. And I don't see it as promoting violence. It's a picture. To me, that's all it is.

A picture of a woman tied up- for no good purpose-kidnapping?, rape?,torture? murder???

The female worker who posed for it should be ashamed - and pray for all those women who did end up like the one she mimicked. But, you can't shame the shameless.

My first thought upon seeing this sign on the back of the truck tailgate? OMG, hope people don't see an abducted woman and think it is a tailgate sign and do nothing to help her.

Well, this is local to me.

Sigh. Stupid. My initial thought when I saw it was that it would mean a bunch of 911 calls, and LE scrambling...unnecessarily, and taking resources away from needed areas. Or, you might have a citizen respond in a manner that might cause an accident, etc. JMO, but this wasn't wise.

I did hear on the local news this morning that the owner is going to donate $2500 to a domestic violence (or similar) group.

ETA: Oh, good! He's donating the money to one of my very favorite charities here in town, the Advocacy Center for Crime Victims and Children.

Or because she's into consenting bondage, or they are playing a prank. It's all open to interpretation.

The tailgate itself does not condone or endorse any type of action whatsoever.

So if you are driving down the road, and see a bound woman in a trunk, in your view, it's open to interpretation and not take any action? O'key.

The phone at Hornet Signs hasn't stopped ringing since the news broke and their Facebook page has been plastered with negative comments - even threats against employees.

"I mean I said hey we really messed up here this has obviously hurt a lot of people," said Brad Kolb, Hornet Signs owner. "Quickly though my focus turned to why we messed up to see what we can do to make this positive."

On Monday they donated $2500 to the Waco Advocacy Center for Crime Victims and Children.

he took it off and burned it

No, if I'm driving down the road, and see what looks like a bound woman in a truck, my first step is going to be making sure that it's not a picture...I hang out with the car mod crowd, and frankly this is no different than what everyone does around here for Halloween and car shows. My first reaction would be to look and see if there is any way that it can be real, and I'm sure that the first time the truck went over a bump and the "body" didn't bounce, it would be obvious what I'm looking at.

A real body in a truck bed is another story.

Company bows to fierce negative global reaction to its 'experiment in marketing.'

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/...cal-bound-woman-marketing-experiment/2790719/

Bowing to a ferocious backlash to its "experiment in marketing," a Texas sign company Monday destroyed a tailgate decal that showed a woman tied up in the back of a pickup truck.

Brad Kolb, the owner of Hornet Signs, in Waco, removed the one-off vinyl wrap from an employee's pickup and burned it, KWTX-TV reported.

The liberal group MoveOn.org has posted a petition calling on Hornet to remove the decal, saying "Using imagery of a hog-tied women on the back of a pick up truck is unacceptable in today's climate of violence against women."

"Today's climate of violence against woman"???? I think MoveOn.org may want to brush up a little bit on world history and maybe take cultural anthropology class or six. There has never been a better time for woman to be in the world, especially in the US, ever. jmo
