The Burning Bed - about Francine Hughes who killed her ex husband ,Mickey, after thirteen long years of abuse. He'd beaten her earlier in the day, dumped her dinner in the trash and made her pick it out and eat it, made her tear out the pages in a school book and burn them, and then forced her to have sex. It was all she could take. She'd been through hell since she'd me him, and she should of killed him sooner.

Farrah Fawcett is very good in this. She brought out who Francine was, just like she did Diane Downs.

If you can read the book. It goes into much more than the movie.

A really good book to read also. You can really come to hate him.

Yes, that's a good one. The made for TV remake starring Lindsay Wagner is pretty good as well.

Agreed :) This is one of my favorite movies. I've always wished a movie would be made about the Mamie Thurman case.

Foxcatcher coming in limited release November 14:
...Carell plays John du Pont, the ne'er-do-well scion of the famous American chemical company who became an unlikely patron of the U.S. Olympic wrestling team in the '80s despite any real knowledge of the sport. He was a deep-pocketed, insecure dilettante straining to be taken seriously. At his blue-blooded family's Pennsylvania estate, he set up a training facility to help athletes realize their potential. And as Carell plays him, with a putty birdlike nose, sallow skin, and a locked jaw, we know there's something not right about him from the get-go.

So does Mark Schultz (Channing Tatum), a quiet, gold-medal-winning hulk who's broke, desperate, and living in the shadow of his older brother, Dave (Mark Ruffalo). When du Pont approaches him to come to his Team Foxcatcher compound, it feels like the creepy come-on of a guy in a van offering a kid sweets. After Mark arrives at du Pont's gym, things quickly go from mildly eccentric to lethally dangerous. ... You don't have to know anything about the true story the film is based on to guess that it won't end well.

omg, have been looking for the name of this movie for quite some time, I remember I had watched half of it but fell asleep. The acting was very good ...a very sad story overall. The child was taken because the mother had psychiatric issues, she had been looking for the child for a while and when found he was deceased was trying to investigate how he died as it was a very suspicious death...I fell asleep before I could see the outcome but can't wait to watch this again now that I know the name! Thanks for posting :)

The movie is on youtube now, and it's very hard to watch. However, it only scratches the surface of what that little boy went through. The real Lois Jurgens was an evil monster (she passed away a few years ago) and she served very little prison time for her crime. Appalling.

"A Place In The Sun" (1951) is based on the murder of Grace Brown (her ghost supposedly still haunts Great Moose Lake)

"A Killer Among Friends" (1992, TV) based on the murder of the teenage Michelle "Missy" Avila. She was killed by her two "best friends" because of jealousy and one of the killers even moved in with the victim's mother before the crime was solved.

"No One Would Tell" (1996, TV), fictionalized account of the murder of 14-year-old Amy Carnevale by her abusive boyfriend, Jamie Fuller, which took place in Beverly, MA in 1993.

"Deadly Whispers" (1995) - a case that took place in the South of a teenage girl who went missing and was later found murdered. Her father was ultimately arrested and convicted of the crime.

"The Case Of The Hillside Stranglers" (1989, TV) - based on the hunt for and capture of the Hillside Stranglers.

"Death Scream" (1975, TV) - also known as Street Kill this movie is based on the murder of Kitty Genovese in 1964 New York, where several witnesses heard her screaming for help and did nothing, eventually providing a name for what has become known as "the bystander effect".

If I think of any more, I'll post them.

The first one and the last two are on my list; the others, I haven't seen.

I just thought of another one.

"A Question Of Guilt" (1978, TV movie). Inspired by the Alice Crimmins murder case which took place in New York in 1965. She was convicted of murdering her two small children, although there was no evidence connecting her to the crime. She was tried and convicted based on her reputation and appearance. This movie is very hard to find, though. Tuesday Weld gives a fantastic performance.

The Kitty Genovese murder was recently profiled on the Investigation Discovery series A Crime To Remember.

That series is very well done.
