Hi, I'm writing a book of stories. In one story, a college student sexually assaults and strangles his girlfriend and puts her body in a river. He gets away with his crime -- though he is a prime suspect, they attribute the crime to a serial killer.

Does anyone know of a serial killer active between 1965 and 1985 who strangled women and put their bodies in rivers?

Any information you have would be incredibly helpful to me! Thank you so much.

Try the Green River Killer for a start. He was active from 1982 to 1998.

Arthur Shawcross; but he strangled prostitutes, not school girls, though he did leave bodies in or near the Genesee River in upstate NY. A true monster. Most of his murders were from 1988 onward, however. Also Kansas City's Terry Blair, the strangler who dumped bodies in the Missouri River. Most of his murders were in 2004. The uncaught Connecticut River Valley killer was active 1978-87 in VT and NH but stabbed his victims.
