I live on Hawai'i Island. We had planes flying over with speakers announcing tsunami warning, All low lying areas to evacuate. Boats evacuated from the Harbors out to deeper water. Both Kauai and Oahu has had water receding.

11:00 news saying that it's expected to hit Honolulu in a few minutes. All flights to/from Maui grounded. It's hit Russia and Japan.

Been seeing people hanging around the shoreline in a lot of the cams so really hope nothing big happens.

Hawaiian officials are saying they expect to wait 2 to 3 hours before they can say the danger is over.

It’s hard to find info, but this seems to indicate no casualties and little damage. But I’m not sure how accurate it is.

The first elevation in this "wave train" in most at-risk Hawaiian bays has been 1 to 1.4 m or 3-4 feet.

Probably another couple of hours to go before the all clear.

A lot depends on the area, too. The Spitak earthquake of December 7, 1988, was about 6.9, but it was in densely populated mountainous area so the amount of deaths was close to 25000. The Mexico earthquake of 1985 claimed over 5000 lives.

And depth is a big factor.

I'd be more worried about Alaska than Hawaii considering the location of the primary earthquake and aftershocks.
