Russia's response should be interesting.

Ah, the story is already turning. I thought the gunman looked young to be protective service for the ambassador....

"Mevlüt Mert Altıntaş, a former member of the Turkish capital’s riot police, was not on duty when he stood behind Ambassador Andrey Karlov as he gave a speech at an art gallery, the Russian Sputnik news agency reported.

Altıntaş, who managed to enter the gallery using a police ID, was wearing a suit and tie – a “police bodyguard uniform” — before drawing his pistol and shooting Karlov at least five times in the back."

Breaking news stories are often full of inaccuracies at first. Dust needs to settle.

"Don't forget Aleppo, don't forget Syria," the attacker said in Turkish after gunning down the ambassador, as seen on a video shared by Turkish media from the scene.

"Whoever took part in this cruelty will pay the price, one by one ... Only death will take me from here," the man said, while carrying a handgun.

He then continued in Arabic, saying: "We are the descendants of those who supported the Prophet Muhammad, for jihad."

He can be heard yelling "Don't forget about Aleppo, don't forget about Syria" and uses the Arabic phrase "Allahu Akbar" (God is great).

bbm and this was said as well.

see what other papers leave out.

Russia’s ambassador to Turkey was assassinated at an Ankara art exhibit on Monday evening by a lone Turkish gunman shouting “God is great!” and “don’t forget Aleppo, don’t forget Syria!” in what Russia called a terrorist attack.

this one does not even show what he said.

Elley Mae,thank you for the post but some may find the NYTimes link pic disturbing so maybe add a warning.
I feel for his family seeing that footage all over the news but this is the norm outside the US and I am sure his family knew that his position was not safe.

Sister and mother of gunman detained

Turkish police detained on Monday the sister and mother of the gunman who shot dead the Russian ambassador at an art gallery in the Turkish capital, broadcaster CNN Turk reported.

It said the two women were detained in the southwestern Turkish province of Aydin.

...the ambassador doesn't go out and about with security protection. He's not that kind of ambassador. So he didn't have any security officers by his side.

"Nor were there any police inside the Modern Arts Centre. The attack shouted some religious slogans as he opened fire. The sound of gunfire continued for about half an hour after everyone escaped."

In a video circulating on social media that shows the shooting, the gunman is heard shouting, "Allahu akbar (God is great). Do not forget Aleppo! Do not forget Syria! Do not forget Aleppo! Do not forget Syria!"

"Get back! Get back!" the man can be heard shouting in Turkish as he waves a gun.

"Only death will remove me from here. Everyone who has taken part in this oppression will one by one pay for it," he said.

Because the US is siding with Russia now over Syria?

No, because that is the standard response in Europe and some other places nowadays (at least in media) when an islamic moron kills someone.

Pretty sure US were over Aleppo first (not sure), but the Russians have made so much damage from their airstrikes I feel disgusted to have Russian blood in me.
They murder little kids, and I believe there are no hospitals left.

I also know for a fact their army (Russian) is hardcore, so why can they not send in the men instead of just bombing mindlessly?

I am usually never happy about anyone dying, but this time I somewhat approve, or at least can understand.
Aleppo is going through hell at the moment, and no little children should need to suffer like they are. But it's several people's fault.

Did you know the Turkish army is actually, mainly supporting ISIS?

Turkey is supporting IS, Russia is killing the innocents. It can only go wrong in Aleppo.
And their children, the main little people, are the ones who suffer most...

Did we blame Russia for the ambassador killing in Benghazi? Or did we just realize that radicals in certain areas are just whackos.

Thought processes like Dylan Roof or Timothy McVeigh. They live in their own world of who knows what. Commecting dots in their own minds.

Turkish police detain six after Russian ambassador shot dead

http://uk.reuters.com/article/uk-turkey-russia-diplomat-idUKKBN1490MS

Turkish police detained six people over the killing of the Russian ambassador, state media said on Tuesday, widening a probe to relatives of the off-duty policeman who shouted "Don't forget Aleppo!" as he gunned the envoy down.

Both countries cast Monday's attack, which occurred at an art gallery in the capital Ankara, as an attempt to undermine a recent thawing of ties that have been strained by Syria's civil war, where they back opposing sides.

I agree and next we will hear he was mentally ill.

And that he "didn't really mean what he said". And that he's probably "depressed". Or "rejected by a girlfriend".

Or that this was just a "random act of gun violence". Maybe even "workplace violence."

Heck, maybe his shoes were too tight, and he had blisters. Any little thing like that can just set a person off into a murderous rage that has nothing at all to do with any kind of politics or radical islamic ideology.

Poor guy, the shooter. He was a victim of police brutality, too. We should all be more compassionate. Because if "we" all just "loved" this shooter a little more, then he never would have been "forced" to "go crazy" and relieve his internal suffering. It's all our fault. We just need to sit still and listen to the lectures about how we're not tolerant enough.

Right?
