“The assailant has experience in combat for sure ... he could have been fighting in Syria for years,” one security source told Reuters, saying the attacker was likely to have been directed in his actions by the jihadist group.

rbbm.

All the more surprising that his wife would have noticed nothing at all...... or so she claims.

IMHO we are witrnessing a new type of Jihadist. Like in Berlin, this terrorist does not seem to be on a suicide trip, getting away without getting caught is part of the plan.

So they can strike again. :(

Sorry if this video has already been posted, it shows a very freaky, creepy guy, imo.

[h=1]Grim selfie video said to show suspect in deadly Istanbul attack[/h]
ISTANBUL — An eerie video emerged Tuesday of a man believed to be the attacker who killed 39 people in a mass shooting at a nightclub, showing him taking a selfie as he silently toured Istanbul’s most famous square.

The camera never leaves the man’s unsmiling face as he walked through Taksim Square during the 44-second clip that was broadcast on state-run Anadolu television and other Turkish media.
It wasn’t immediately clear if the video was made before or after the New Year’s massacre at the Reina nightclub, or how it was obtained.

I am not gonna get the terms right - but on Rueters the day they said the same thing. It helps terror experts really determine who the perp is -- its like a degree of dedication .

Its a different group, generally if one is ready to die, and basically another for those that are fleeing

Was a neat report-- mirrors what your saying ......

Do we have any real context in terms of "time" how long he remained at the scene?

Was he hiding or something or go in shoot and murder and run out??

Everytime I hear about a terrorist attack the first thing I think is vicarious injustice collector.

Injustice Collectors
http://www.psybersquare.com/family/family_injustice.html

1.) Injustice Collectors are convinced that they are never wrong. How is it possible that they are never wrong? It is simple: They are always right.

2.) Injustice Collectors never apologize. Ever. For anything.

3.) Injustice Collectors truly believe that they are morally and ethically superior to others and that others chronically do not hold themselves to the same high standards as the injustice collector does.

4.) Injustice Collectors make the rules, break the rules and enforce the rules of the family. They are a combined legislator, police, and judge and jury of

5.) Injustice Collectors never worry about what is wrong with themselves as their "bad list" grows. Their focus is always on the failings of others.

6.) Injustice Collectors are never upset by the disparity of their rules for others with their own expectations of themselves.

7.) Injustice Collectors rationalize their own behavior with great ease and comfort.

Here are more with 20 characteristics

Characteristics of Injustice Collectors

1. Injustice collectors are never wrong. How is it possible that they are never wrong? It's simple: They are always right.

2. Injustice collectors never apologize. Ever. For anything.

3. Injustice collectors truly believe they are morally and ethically superior to others and that others seem incapable of holding themselves to the same high standards as the injustice collector does.

4. Injustice collectors make the rules, break the rules and enforce the rules of the family. They are a combination of legislator, police, judge and jury to those they consider their subjects. They forever banish from their kingdom any subject they deem disloyal, and only grant clemency if there is sufficient (in their eyes) contrition.

5. Injustice collectors never worry about what is wrong with them as their "bad" list grows. Their focus is always on the failings of others.

6. Injustice collectors are never troubled by the disparity between their rules for others and their own expectations of themselves. Injustice collectors rationalize their own behavior with great ease and comfort.

7. Injustice collectors have an external orientation; the problem always exists in the world, outside of themselves, and in their view, the world would be an acceptable place if their rules and standards were followed at all times.

8. Injustice collectors do not have a capacity for remorse, empathy or guilt.

9. Injustice collectors scoff at the idea of therapy, therapists, self-help books, and other tools used by people who struggle to live with them.

10. The phrase "walking on eggshells" describes life with an injustice collector.

11. The IC (injustice Collector) will prey upon your weaknesses to frame all issues in their terms.

12. IC's will always cry foul when you are 'mean' to them and accuse you of being nasty when you are confronting them with their negative behavior.

13. They are titanically insecure and cannot trust anyone. All relationships they have, even with their own parents and children and trustless and must be reinforced by subordination over and over.

14. They can only strengthen relationships through imprisoning their mates and banning behaviors and other relationships. Friends and family are a huge threat to the IC.

15. They must repetitively revisit situations where you service them, give in to them and agree with them. They will over time shrink your world to a small plot of empty activities that only they like. They are terrified of travel, meeting new people, understanding new concepts and paroling you from any punishment they have previously 'convicted' you of.

16. They do not care about you at all, they care about aggrandizing themselves with you as an assistant producer.

17. They will occasionally do something for you, but if you are not completely brainwashed, it will be a negative experience for you in the end. Example is throwing you a birthday party. I guarantee you will not have fun at your own party.

18. They will force you to choose between them and other things you like or love. The more you choose them, the more they will make you choose them over and over. They do not understand the concept of loyalty at all.

19. Hypocrisy is their modus operandi for debating and arguing with you. Everything they say about you is true about them. (aka Projection) It makes it so you try to 'win' fights by getting them to agree with you, which they never can because their whole position is false.

20. Your life will disappear into their lives. Your hopes and dreams will fade, even in your own mind. You will eat what they want, you will watch what they want on TV, you will vacation where they want, or not at all.

I suspect the terrorist in this case shows all seven or twenty characteristics of injustice collectors. Omar Mateen, Tashfeen Malik and Syed Farook, Mohamed Lahouaiej-Bouhlel, Abdelhamid Abaaoud, Kouachi Brothers, Amedy Coulibaly, Tsarnaev Brothers, 9/11 Terrorists, Osama bin Laden, Abubakar Shekau, and Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi show most if not all characteristics of injustice collector.

Interesting...you could be describing a terrorist or the US government.

Btw there is an excellent book I highly recommend if anyone would like to understand more....it's called The Faith Club and it is about a Muslim, Christian, and Jewish woman who come together after 9/11 and they talk about their faiths.

Very very good, important, and well done.

1. Non-Muslims make up the majority of terrorists in the United States: According to the FBI, 94% of terrorist attacks carried out in the United States from 1980 to 2005 have been by non-Muslims. This means that an American terrorist suspect is over nine times more likely to be a non-Muslim than a Muslim. According to this same report, there were more Jewish acts of terrorism in the United States than Islamic, yet when was the last time we heard about the threat of Jewish terrorism in the media? For the same exact reasons that we cannot blame the entire religion of Judaism or Christianity for the violent actions of those carrying out crimes under the names of these religions, we have absolutely no justifiable grounds to blame Muslims for terrorism.

2. Non-Muslims make up the majority of terrorists in Europe: There have been over one thousand terrorist attacks in Europe in the past five years. Take a guess at what percent of those terrorists were Muslim. Wrong, now guess again. It’s less than 2%.

4. If all Muslims are terrorists, then all Muslims are peacemakers: <modsnip>.

Are All Terrorists Muslims? It’s Not Even Close

http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2015/01/14/are-all-terrorists-muslims-it-s-not-even-close.html

"Even after one of the worst terror attacks ever in Europe in 2011, when Anders Breivik slaughtered 77 people in Norway to further his anti-Muslim, anti-immigrant, and pro-“Christian Europe” agenda as he stated in his manifesto, how much press did we see in the United States? Yes, it was covered, but not the way we see when a Muslim terrorist is involved. Plus we didn’t see terrorism experts fill the cable news sphere asking how we can stop future Christian terrorists. In fact, even the suggestion that Breivik was a “Christian terrorist” was met with outrage by many, including Fox News’s Bill O’Reilly.

Have you heard about the Buddhist terrorists? Well, extremist Buddhists have killed many Muslim civilians in Burma, and just a few months ago in Sri Lanka, some went on a violent rampage burning down Muslim homes and businesses and slaughtering four Muslims.

Or what about the (dare I mention them) Jewish terrorists? Per the 2013 State Department’s report on terrorism, there were 399 acts of terror committed by Israeli settlers in what are known as “price tag” attacks. These Jewish terrorists attacked Palestinian civilians causing physical injuries to 93 of them and also vandalized scores of mosques and Christian churches."

"But our media simply do not cover the non-Muslim terror attacks with same gusto. Why? It’s a business decision. Stories about scary “others” play better. It’s a story that can simply be framed as good versus evil with Americans being the good guy and the brown Muslim as the bad.

Honestly, when is the last time we heard the media refer to those who attack abortion clinics as “Christian terrorists,” even though these attacks occur at one of every five reproductive health-care facilities? That doesn’t sell as well. After all we are a so-called Christian nation, so that would require us to look at the enemy within our country, and that makes many uncomfortable. Or worse, it makes them change the channel."

Turkey’s religious affairs directorate, which condemned the attack, had issued a statement in December saying celebrating the new year did not fit with Muslim values.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...nman-identified-says-turkish-foreign-minister

Several people have been arrested in relation to the shooting, including at least five suspected Islamic State group militants during an operation on Wednesday in the Aegean port city of Izmir, the state-run Anadolu news agency said.

Not sure what some of the things being posted have to do with Istanbul. Perhaps it would be better served in a separate thread... maybe ask a mod if that is possible, rather than continuing to drag this thread off topic. jmo It makes it difficult to come and just get the facts of what happened NYE.

Turkeys history is interesting and directly related to the message about New Years and "Noel Baba" (aka Santa Claus in Turkish)...

This article does a decent job explaining it. You have a big divide in Turkey....you have a dictator as president who wants to cozy up to other middle eastern leaders and a whole bunch of the population who believe in Kemalism and secular values.

Ps fun fact...Santa Claus is from Turkey
