I know it’s been a long time since this thread was updated. However, I felt I should issue a warning. There is now an image of the survivor of this case, Charla Nash, that is now out on the internet which shows in very graphic detail her injuries from the attack. The photo was taken before she received the surgery where they placed the skin on her face resulting in how she looked during her interviews in November 2009.
The photo was shown as part of a presentation done by the surgeon who performed her face transplant. This presentation is on YouTube. Charles is only referred to as Patient #4 in. As well the image was shown as part of a medical journal article about face transplants. It has also been shared on Reddit as part of the “gore” community. A Reddit user made a thread asking what had happened to the graphic images of Charla’s injuries as apparently they had been on Reddit before then taken down. Then less than a year ago someone else grabbed the photo from the medical journal article and shared it on Reddit.
The image as shared on Reddit was covered by a NSFW (“Not Safe for Work”) label which blurred it, but of course my curiosity got the best of me. Now I wish I hadn’t seen it. Also I think her family was trying to prevent images of Charlas initial injuries from being released to the public, but maybe they gave permission for the image to be used in the medical journal article since it was a medical journal.
Anyway, just a warning.
