God, looking at old Britney makes me cry. I used to want to be her so bad... so pretty, so fit... and she's got a big slope in her back like I do so our butts stick out.. and the guys still loved her. :)

Did you guys read this yet? http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20012364,00.html

Basically, a journalist interviewed Britney 5 years ago and asked her where she saw herself in 10 years. The article/interview was in 2001, when she was still pretty much on top (and still with Justin). When asked what was the worst thing that could happen to her, she said:

*snip*

'First, the worst thing that could happen is if my boyfriend would break up with me. I would be totally devastated,'' she said. ''And then, after the depression, maybe I did some dorky movies that were just bombs. Then... I don't know, maybe I did another album that didn't do very well. And then, I went back to working at my granny's deli — back to rolling quarters and boiling crawfish and smelling like fish on my dates.''

*end snip*

People who think she's dumb don't know what they're talking about. She accurately saw her future. :(
That is sad, she is right where she never wanted to be. I personally think that she loves JT still and I am sure she wishes she did things different so they would have stayed together. Didn't she cheat on him?

Yep, like I said, she's showing that it can be done and how to do it. You don't have to be a walking talking freak show just because you are famous.

I saw that too. Perez being my guilty pleasure...

There was a recent radio interview in Atlanta with Gwen Stefani and honestly she just sounded so centered and down to earth. I was pretty impressed. She talked about lots of things - her music, her son, the paparazzi - and she just seemed to have it together.

I do believe that many people can survive and even thrive in the celebrity zone, but for others - it is the kiss of death!
I have always loved Gwen, Her music and all. I think she seems like a great girl.

I believe that's the story (her cheating on him) - self sabatoging what was good in her life, even back then.

Yes, she seems very normal. Talked about how she hadn't slept more than 3 hours in a row since her little one was born and I thought - there's a real mother - not just someone with 24/7 nannies doing all the hard work.

Also, she has weathered a tough spotlight time or two (when her husband turned out to be the father of another child) and has always done so gracefully. I too agree that her music is fun.

In my experience, it is hard to keep your hair looking nice while in rehab since many of the products a person like her may use would not be allowed due to potentialy dangerous or intoxicating ingredients. You imagination is not big enough to hold all the ways some people get high! Some even get high on pain, so no sharp objects or hot appliances such as curling irons!

Also, they encourage you to focus on your insides, not your outside appearance.
She may have thought bald would be better than bad hair!

I think she's bi-polar among other things.

Oh for gods sake would people stop making excuses for her.
Curious hit the nail on the head with this:

<<I don't think she has a disorder or mental illness I just think she's been spoiled>>

I'm sorry but its pretty much that simple.
I feel sorry for Brits but she hasn't got a mental illness, she's famous, rich, spoilt and by this stage probably an addict, Hollywood eats them up and spits them out, you have to be strong and grounded to survive there as already has been pointed out.

No news is good news, she must be still in there!
Lets hope I don't wake up tomorrow to the headline' Brits- out again'.

Narla, Narla, Narla, help me out here - help me understand! Why do you think that when people opine Britney might be suffering a mental illness that equates to making excuses for her?! I'm just not getting it.

Um because its insulting to people who really do suffer mental illness.

Because they are putting her crazy behaviour down to being mentally ill

She may be 'depressed' but I doubt very much she's bi polar, her erratic behaviour is due to all the drugs she takes and because she's famous, she thinks she can do whatever she wants whenever she wants.

Wow - I see it so differently. I think it's insulting to mentally ill people to imply that people with mental illness don't have any personal responsibility for their behavior and their actions. Most people I know who suffer from mental illness hate that implication and fight against the stigma of it.

I'm not being a Britney apologist here, I promise. I have no idea whether or not she has a diagnosable mental illness. But whether she does or doesn't, she is still responsible for her actions. Mental illness is not a get out of jail free card and to imply otherwise seems to belittle all the brave people who battle it.

Well, that's not what I'm implying at all.
When people with mental illness are having a manic episode and sometimes this happens through no fault of their own, they have no idea what they are doing and have no recollection afterwards, in that way their actions and their behaviour can be put down to their illness.
Maybe Brits doesn't remember what she does when she's out puking everywhere and having sex with anything that moves, but that's because of the drugs, not a mental illness.

I have two friends who are bipolar and neither has ever had no recollection of what they have done during a manic cycle or period, so I guess I don't jump to the conclusion that a diagnosis of bipolar excuses people of doing things they don't remember.

One of my best friends has MPD and she definitely has "lost time" like you describe. I understand that schizophrenics can do that as well.

All of these friends are very brave and work daily to have normal, productive, happy lives and all are extremely sensitive to the implication that their mental illness relieves them of personal responsibility.

I guess it's just a matter of perspective. When someone suggests that Britney may be suffering from, among other things, a mental illness, I don't assume that the person is trying to excuse her. I just think they are trying to understand more fully what might be happening with her. Or they might be relating some of her behavior to experiences they have had (either themselves or with others) with mental illness.

And, of course, as many have pointed out - her behavior has been bizarre enough to at least suspect mental illness. I personally don't think Britney is suffering from bipolar disorder, but I can definitely see why some people think she may be.

Southcitymom, do you think Britney could be suffering from post-partum depression? IIRC, it doesn't have to show up right away, can't it come on even a few months after childbirth, it doesn't have to be immediately after?

I do think she could be suffering from post partum depression and that it may have helped lead to a major depressive episode. I'm not an expert - that's just my layman's observation.

Of course, neither Britney nor any medical doctor will be able to figure it out until she gets clean from all the drugs she's been using - I think that's paramount.

Did any of you see the video clip of her from Wednesday night, hitting the car with some type of object? I can't recall exactly what the object was, but she was hitting the window of a paparrazi van or something...supposedly it was in front of wherever Kevin was staying with the boys. They've got it on tape. She is definitely out of control. It's my understanding he wouldn't give the kids to her, and that's when she was leaving...and it's when her mom and Kevin agreed that she had to go into rehab (again), and that Kev and mom would share custody while Brit was in rehab.

Sorry I don't have a link, but was just wondering if anyone else saw it.

She was going after the paparrazzi with an umbrella - it did happen when she had gone to try to see the kids at Kevin's. I don't have the link either, but she is pretty whacked out in that video.

Yes! Umbrella. Thanks!
