Man arrested, charged in connection to missing 12-year-old girl after she was found safe in Columbus, Texas

After 8 days of searching, a missing 12-year-old girl at the center of an Amber Alert has been found unharmed, according to the Houston Police Department.

The Columbus Police Department has identified the suspect in connection to the case as 27-year-old Sirterryon Preston, of Houston.

HPD said there was a fear that E had been trafficked after using the adult dating app, "Tagged."

"If they're on the internet, have access to the internet, predators have access to your child," Dr. Elizabeth Gilmore, a criminal justice professor at UH-Downtown, said. "So have constant conversations about safety and your kids, knowing they are not going to get in trouble."

A suspect has been arrested after a 12-year-old girl in Texas went missing for eight days, according to police.

KPRC 2 reported that witnesses saw Preston delivering chips to a Shell gas station in Columbus when a large number of police officers attempted to arrest him. A post on Facebook by Columbus police states that Preston initially attempted to flee, but he was quickly apprehended. He currently stands charged with evading arrest, but police say additional charges are likely after an investigation by the FBI is completed.
