Shot 22 times!
Dear Lord...horrible

(some confusion about whether she's 15 or 16)

16-year-old girl shot and killed while walking dog in southwest Houston

HOUSTON - A 16-year-old girl was shot and killed while walking her dog in a southwest Houston neighborhood on Tuesday night.

The shooting was reported around 9:30 p.m. in the 5100 block of Markwood Lane.

Family members identified the girl as 15-year-old Diamond Alvarez, a sophomore at Madison High School.

Her family says she was a straight-A student, who had played volleyball and basketball. Diamond was looking forward to a career in cosmetology, and she walked her dog through the neighborhood every day.

According to the family, they heard multiple gunshots and became nervous because they knew Diamond was out walking the dog. That’s when they heard scratching at the door — the family dog actually came back to the house — and they knew right away something was wrong. They ran out to try to find Diamond, and when they came to the spot in the field, they found her shot 22 times. The family says Diamond was still alive when they found her.

"My son found her. I tried CPR, and I couldn’t bring her back. I tried so hard to keep her alive. I couldn’t," said Anna Machado, the victim's mother.

The family told FOX 26 that they know Diamond was having an argument with an ex-boyfriend, and they say that he texts her saying he would meet her at this location. Diamond’s mother said the police did speak with that person and don’t have enough evidence at this time. HPD has not named any person of interest in this case.

When I heard she was shot 22 times-------it seemed unlikely it was a robbery or a drive-by or a random shooter.

22 times seems very personal and hearing that her ex sometimes meets up with her there , yikes, I hope they keep an eye on him....

They need to focus in like a laser on that ex-boyfriend, get some search warrants, and try to find the gun in the first place before he destroys it.
The poor girl...a tragedy, a life cut short by mindless, beyond the pale, violence.
This killer needs to pay severely.

Oh, dear G-d, how absolutely awful. Yes, 22 shots sounds a bit purposeful and personal. Someone stood there and fired 22 times -- and no one heard anything?
If it's the area I saw on Markwood Lane, it's a big grassy well-kept corner lot, no trees, but no more than 100 feet or so from houses all around it. A good place to walk a dog and let him sniff around do whatever. I wouldn't think her house would be very far away if she was out after dark.
Yep, LE needs to check on her ex-boyfriend indeed. He wanted to meet with her that night. LE needs to get all over that guy. Now.
Oh, we've lost another promising young girl -- a straight-A student and an athlete. We'll never know what good she might have done in this world. And her parents and other family will never hold or laugh with her again.
Dammit.

It's the boyfriend. Of course.

And now he's been RELEASED after making bail, $250,000!

Unbelievable. Probably headed to Mexico or other parts unknown as I post this. Who put up 25 grand for a bail bond on this creep who shot a girl 22 times and left her dead on a sidewalk??

Indeed, Joe, who in the world? Parents or other relatives? Was he a "good guy" up until the time he probably put 22 shots into her body? (SMH). And yes, Mexico is not that far away...
Need more info, for sure.

Oh no!

from the article I linked:
Judge Hazel Jones reinstated DeLeon's bond, after the ankle monitoring company admitted it could have been a glitch, and the teenager walked out of court with his relatives.

Diamond Alvarez's brother goes after teen accused of killing her, DA says – KHOU11
<snipped & BBM>
The brother of 16-year-old Diamond Alvarez tried to go after the teen accused of killing her in court on Thursday, according to the Harris County District Attorney's Office.

The presiding judge hit a panic button and deputies swarmed the courtroom before the brother was able to get to Frank DeLeon, 17. DeLeon is accused of shooting Alvarez 22 times back in January while she was walking her dog.

[...]

"Right now they're celebrating his f****** a** at home, hugging him, laughing at me, laughing at Diamond," Alvarez's mother, Anna Machado, screamed. "I'm tired. I'm done. I want to laugh with my daughter. I want to hear my daughter laugh, too. I have to listen to videos to hear her voice."

According to Espinosa and the Alvarez family, DeLeon violated his bond condition in March. They said his attorney claimed he left his house to go to a church in the area.

The family said they do not buy this excuse because the alleged violation happened on a Monday and the church is closed that day.

45 years is a decent sentence for a guilty plea. A better one would have been life, but in these times is probably not possible. I hope he serves every minute of the 45 years.
