Two officers entered the house and found a dead elderly man in back bedroom, he said. Someone in the house said there might be a witness in a shed in the back yard. When officers attempted to enter the shed, someone fired at them.

The officers managed to return fire into the shed. SWAT officers later surrounded the shed, firing tear gas canisters toward the shed in an effort to make contact with the person inside. Just before midnight Fort Worth police confirmed that the person was found deceased inside the shed.

The injured officers, who were both wearing protective vests, were transported to John Peter Smith hospital. One officer suffered injuries to his arm and shoulder and was in critical condition, according to Povero. The second officer was hit in the chest, but the bulletproof vest deflected the bullet, he said.
