Unfortunately dog attacks have gotten so bad here I carry a backpack full of stuff anytime I go outside in my upper middle class neighborhood to ride my bike, walk my dogs, do yard work, do... anything at all really. It contains a gun, pepper gel, some kind of dog deterrent noisemaker thing, a wedge, a large zip tie, an awl & an extra leash; which is a ridiculous thing to have to do.
I created a very detailed list just after 2022 ended; 51 people were murdered by dogs in the US in 2022.
When I moved into my house I installed a 6' chain link fence in front of the wooden privacy fence so that if the neighbors' dogs ever do bust down their fence they will be stopped at the chain link fence and won't be able to attack my dogs. And I lined the bottom of the fence with steel landscape edging so they won't dig underneath it either.
As much as I love Texas, it's super embarrassing to live in a state full of so many selfish people that we single handedly supply the rest of the county with all the rescue dogs they could ever want and then some. And for some reason it's only getting worse. People would much rather spend $250 a month on the most extensive cable package or buy the newest iPhone than spay/neuter their dog.
So thank you, other states, for picking up our slack on this issue.
According to Houston police, the man was killed by dogs on Sheraton Oaks Drive, which is in the Acres Homes area.
