Nine teenagers were shot in an east Texas residence early Sunday at a prom after-party attended by hundreds, local officials said in a statement.

Just after midnight, deputies responded to shots fired at a private residence in Jasper County where the party was held and found nine victims with gunshot wounds, according to a statement by the Jasper County Sheriff's Office. According to Jasper County officials, the injuries are expected to be non-life threatening.

Most victims were transported to Jasper Memorial Hospital, and some were transferred to Christus St. Elizabeth in Beaumont, Texas, for further treatment, authorities said.

"We first want to say our prayers are with those injured early Sunday morning in the shooting that took place north of town," the Jasper School District said in a statement, according to ABC News Texas affiliate KMBT. "Jasper ISD is working with law enforcement in any way we can to aid in their investigation to bring these perpetrators to justice."

Nine people have been injured after gunfire erupted at a teenagers' party in Jasper County, Texas.

The shooting early on Sunday took place at a private residence where some 250 Jasper High School students had gathered after their annual prom dance.

The victims, who have not been publicly named, ranged in age from 15 to 19. All are recovering from their wounds at two local hospitals.

Police have not yet made any arrests and are requesting the public's help.

"All we know is some kids ganged up after prom to have a night they could remember the rest of their lives, and somehow it got twisted, a bunch of children got shot," Jasper County Sheriff Mitchel Newman said on Sunday.

He said investigators were speaking to students who attended the party, including several persons of interest, but no motive for the incident had yet been identified.

Gunfire brought an abrupt end to the house party just north of Jasper, a town of about 7,000 people in eastern Texas, shortly after midnight on Sunday.

Four people have been arrested in the wake of a shooting that injured 11 people at an after-prom party at a home in Texas, authorities announced on Friday, ABC News reported.

The suspects, an 18-year-old man and three 19-year-old men, are charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and engaged in organized criminal activity, the Jasper County Sheriff's Office said. The same suspects were also served with warrants from the Jasper Police Department for aggravated assault and deadly conduct, Jasper Police Lt. Garrett Foster said.

About 250 people were at the home at the time of the early Sunday morning shooting.

Jasper County Sheriff Mitchel Newman said the shooting was part of an ongoing dispute between two groups of teens that "finally came to a head."

The sheriff called it an act of "senseless violence" and said more arrests are possible.

Law enforcement reported a second shooting within Jasper city limits on Sunday less than two miles away from where the after-prom party was being held.

According to the release, the Jasper Police Department is investigating that shooting but said there is a possible connection between the two shootings.

"No motive has been established at present however, several witnesses and persons of interest are being interviewed," the release said.

On Monday, Jasper police told USA TODAY no one was injured in the shooting that involved a home and a vehicle being struck by gunfire.

"Investigators believe that this incident is a result of two or more vehicles ... exchanging gunfire as they chased one another," police released in a statement. "People of interest have been identified in the case as the investigation continues but no arrests have been made as of this time."
