HOUSTON – Investigators continue the search for a University of Houston student who disappeared during a camping trip.

Aamir Ali, 22, went camping with a couple of friends at Canyon Lake Texas, which is northeast of San Antonio, for the weekend.

He was last seen around 9 p.m., Friday, as he headed out to take a walk alone.

His friends told investigators when they went to look for him, they found his clothing and personal items by the lake’s shore.

What was the temperature? Was it not a little to cold to go for a swim?

From article above, doesn’t look good:

Quasam Ali, Aamir’s brother, told KPRC 2′s Brittany Jeffers that camping is a hobby for him.

“His phone, his headphones, his wallet... his clothing and his t-shirt, his pants and underwear were found by the lake. He hasn’t been seen since then and we’ve been looking for him ever since,” Quasam said.

His brother is quoted in the story saying:

"My brother was casually scrolling through his phone, and he decided to go for a walk."

What did he see on his phone, I wonder?

In this article his cousin says that he's a good swimmer.

Was he with “new” friends or long-standing friends?

That lake is like Lake Conroe. Pretty big with lots of homes around it. Boating, etc. If he is injured or lost someone should find him pretty quick. I hope the searchers find him soon. Looks like a sweet kid.

I did a search on "'canyon lake' texas drowning" and got a lot of results. I didn't read all the articles and one drowning was definitely considered a suicide but this lake might be more dangerous than most (5 drownings in 2021).

I cannot believe LE has not found this kid. Scary.

It is strange, I read a few of the stories of other people who've drowned in this lake and none of them were missing for so long. That said, most of them were with other people when they drowned. The one person who committed suicide did go into the lake alone and it took 3 days to find him.

From the above article, one of the search and rescue workers said "This lake is known to be one of the deadliest lakes as far as drownings are concerned. There's a lot of riptides effects in this lake as well as ledges and deep drop-offs."

Yep, I read that too. The brother said Aamir was a strong swimmer, the rip tides are terrible. We had wind coming from the gulf over the weekend and a cold front. Idk. I just want him found.
