Police: Teen charged in triple killing is loose, dangerous
''GARLAND, Texas (AP) — Dallas-area police have charged a 14-year-old with capital murder in a triple killing at a gas station and are warning that the boy is at large, armed and dangerous.
Police in Garland are seeking Abel Elias Acosta and said Wednesday that they have evidence showing he was the gunman who left three teens dead and wounded a fourth at the suburban gas station’s convenience store Sunday.''
''Police previously said the shooter fired more than 20 rounds from a .40-caliber pistol before fleeing in the Dodge Ram pickup driven by Richard Acosta, who they said also brought the gunman to the gas station,
Those killed were 14-year-old Xavier Gonazalez, 16-year-old Ivan Noyala, and 17-year-old Rafael Garcia, according to police. A 15-year-old who was a cook at the store was taken to the hospital following the shooting and was expected to survive.
Investigators believe the shooting was a retaliatory attack on one or more of the people in the store, Barineau said.''

14-Year-Old Sought in Garland Triple Murder, Is ‘Armed and Dangerous': PD
''Abel Elias Acosta, 14, is suspected to have been the shooter in the Dec. 26 incident, according to a news release.
Law enforcement officials rarely release the identity of juvenile suspects.
“However because of the extenuating circumstances, the nature of the incident and the risk to the public the court has authorized the release of his information so we can locate his whereabouts,” Garland Police Public Information Officer Lt. Pedro Barineau said.
Acosta is described by police as a light-skinned Hispanic male with dark hair, brown eyes, approximately 5 feet, 5 inches tall and weighs around 125 pounds.

Acosta's father, Richard Acosta, surrendered to police this week and faces a charge of capital murder, accused of driving his son to and from the scene, police said.''

My goodness! What father, knowing his son's intentions, drives that child to a location to commit murder!? Would not a loving father step in and offer guidance on proper legal behavior!? Instead, they'll probably both be tried on multiple counts of capital murder.

Though there are plenty of exceptions for various reasons, the first name "Richard" coupled with the lack of a maternal last name (Spanish / Portuguese speaking countries use two last names- one from the father, one from the mother) suggests that the father is not an immigrant.

If the father is not an immigrant, this would reduce the shooter's viable flight options as it reduces the chances of the shooter having family ties in another country as well as having meaningful knowledge of Spanish or say, Mexican culture.

Likewise, the extradition of criminal suspects from Mexico is far easier if they are not Mexican citizens (Mexican citizens have to be indicted in Mexico first, before being extradited). Being of distant, or even direct Mexican descent does not make one a Mexican citizen.

Father. What did he think or know?

@dotr Thanks for opening this thread, even tho it's tragic.

So Father drove son-perp to and from the store?
I'm trying to imagine that conversation.
Before the shooting --- Dad, after you drop me off at quickee mart, just circle the block to pick me up and just ignore any gun shots you hear.

After the shooting --- Dad, where are you. I thought you were gonna be here to pick me up now, but I can hear sirens from three directions. Can you step it up.

No snarc or sarc honestly, I wonder what was said, what the Father thought son was doing. Did he know son was armed. Whose gun? His? Did he agree to lend to son? Was he not aware son had "borrowed" his gun? Did son buy it from buddy? Buy from a "guy who knows a guy?" Did son steal it? Find it abandoned at school?
At least the Father has surrendered.

@GoBuckeyes Your comment prompted me to think about this.

in the small town i grew up in, a classmate committed a double murder plus attempted murder in presence of 3 children, his father participated, the man really had no criminal history and was known in the community. the father was REALLY MAD that the target had shot at his son a few weeks before following a dispute. they followed the guy to a house and invaded it, the rest of the people were collateral damage. it was really crazy. google Pete Rangel california. the appeals are out there. the son ended up LWOP but appealed and eventually got out but died later, dads on death row. there were so many accessories it would make your head spin.

MY POINT: sometimes, the father gets really super mad after a preceding event.

Texas Cops Search for 14-Year-Old They Say Killed Three Teens (yahoo.com)
''Fourteen year-old Abel Elias Acosta of Garland is all of five-foot-eight and 125 pounds. He is believed to be armed with a black and silver .40 caliber semi-automatic pistol with an extended magazine. He is the prime suspect in the fatal shooting of three fellow teens and the wounding of a fourth at a gas station convenience store the day after Christmas.''

''Surveillance cameras recorded the figure crouching as he walked alongside the front of the store. His left hand pulled open the door as his right rose, clutching a gun. He remained in the entrance as he fired at least 20 times.

When police responded, they found one teen dead by the drink machines, another dead in an eating area and a third dead in the hallway leading to the restrooms. Two of them, 16-year-old Rafael Garcia and 17-year-old Ivan Noyla, knew each other and police believe that at least one of them was an intended target. The third, 14-year-old Xavier Gonzalez, had gone there to pick up food for his family and seems simply to have been at the wrong place at the wrong time.''
