"The clock has already been invented, as we all know."

Well, of course, but if the kid had actually built a clock from PCB and wire and parts it would be impressive and worthy of mention, that seems to be the impression people are under.

I am not sure what makes it impressive. And if it makes beeping sounds while in English class, clearly that's disruptive.

He did originally show it to his engineering teacher whose class he took.

The fact that he willingly took it out and showed it to a teacher makes me think he did not intend to cause any uproar, he may have been aware that it was controversial I dont know, but I dont think he thought anyone would be alarmed by it (ooo punny). At least I dont see any evidence for that.

Engineering teacher who advised him not to show it to any other teachers. My guess is because engineering teacher realized it was a rather funky looking electronic device, and someone who isn't an expert could confuse it for something else.

"“He was like, ‘That’s really nice,’” Mohamed told the Dallas Morning News. “‘I would advise you not to show any other teachers.’”"

I'm saying if he made it from scratch at that age it would be impressive, he did not. Etching printed circuit boards, soldering wires and resistors to them etc that takes a bit of knowledge and work, IF he had done that THEN it would be worth mentioning, again - he did not do that.

I'll go with the other side of the coin... I've made digital clocks before as part of electronics projects, and I think it looks much more like a clock than a bomb. Most clocks don't look like that because they use etched circuit boards rather than wires, but they do the same thing.

MOO

He showed it to his engineering teacher, who advised him not to show it to his other teachers. Presumably because his engineering teacher realized this clock was funky looking and could easily confuse teachers without a scientific background. Yet the student showed it to his English teacher (after the clock was beeping in class). Clearly his English teacher wasn't able to figure out what it was.

Yes. It is posted in the first reply I made

I looked back through all your posts to find the link. The first post said "disgusting!' I saw no link. I really would like to read the lawyers document.
