This time of death thing is throwing everyone off. I think the ME is setting the "legal TOD" at that time because that is about the time she was found. We may later find out a different length of time that they think is when she died. Or, maybe the state of decomp was so minimal when she was found that she truly had not been dead very long at all when she was found.

Some of the problem lies in some saying they had seen the tarp earlier that day. Well, maybe they just didn't. It is a sad fact that eye witness accounts are notoriously inaccurate. Same goes for the sighting of the red truck with green paint on it.

The 911 call was made shortly after 7PM. 7:12? Le arrived closed to 7;30, thus TOD. We have no idea of real TOD. :twocents:

Yes LE arrived at 723 and ems arrived at 732 tod called at 733

Yeah I think to clarify, she was PRONOUNCED dead at that time not actual tod which may have been much earlier, I am even willing to go to the previous night if tarp was out midday and she was under it. Say 5am

Alannah was in my child's Kindergarten class this past year. Our community is empty. We are making, wearing and displaying purple ribbons everywhere we can. Nothing new has been found by the police. I'm confused as to why people are debating the "helicopter parent" thing. Who cares? I don't let my kids go outside without me. Ever.

Some things about Saginaw:
1. Calling us "small" is a little misleading. Some streets considered to be in Saginaw are actually Fort Worth. We are literally a few miles from downtown Fort Worth.

2. None of us believe that we are "completely safe", as the P.D. spokesman said.

3. Most of us are keenly aware of the fact that we are very close to a large city, and we don't feel like we are some sort of idyllic small town.

4. Opal Jennings was abducted from her Grandmother's home in Saginaw and killed. It has happened here, before, and not too long ago that it has been forgotten.

Her teacher is destroyed. My child is scared to be very far away from me. We are all extremely shaken. My instinct tells me that there is something that we don't know. <modsnip> I do remember her from chaperoning field trips, and she was a delightful child. My child said that she always said nice things to and about everyone.

Welcome to the thread, and thanks for the local insight.

<modsnip> She appears pretty happy in all her pictures, at home or not.

Nope. The ME has not issued a cause of death yet. I am pretty sure it was reported that the ME would not issue a cause of death until the lab tests come back...like tox screens, etc.

Does that mean there is no obvious cod? I don't know. If she was suffocated with the bag, the ME would know that I am sure.

I am inclined to think they know but don't want the public to know yet as it might hinder their job when questioning suspects.

JMO

They have the option to wait until the autopsy is final.
My Aunt died last month from what is almost certainly an accidental drug overdose.

The cop said "It doesn't look suspicious. We believe it's either natural causes or an OD."
However the ME's office has not given us any autopsy results.

They haven't said "we believe it was a drug OD because her autopsy was otherwise normal."
There is no criminal investigation in my Aunt's case either. :twocents:

Thank you for helping us understand about the layout of the area and more about Alanna's demeanor. We used to live very near Tampa & at times you could be IN Tampa and in another 'Idyllic' small town in a matter of minutes via the crosstown expressway. Someone who knows the area can disappear quickly.
I am so sorry for what you & all the families & children are going through - when it's on your doorstep, there is little relief from it. When you have a personal connection there is so much emotion. Please accept the concern of many who wish they could do more to help!

When my mom died, the ME listed a (I don't remember the exact word) tentative COD, pending toxicology. Then it took a couple of months to get the official COD. So I was issued a death certificate within days, but it said pending on it, and then the official death certificate was issued after tox was done.

Also, there was about a 36 hour window when my mom could have passed away. ME could not pinpoint exactly, so he asked a few questions about her routine and details about how her apartment was found, took into consideration the physical evidence, and then made an educated guess. If there are no witnesses, I guess that is really all they can ever do.

Even if LE is awaiting tests, they are likely to have an idea about how Alanna died. If they aren't releasing details, I guess it's because keeping them secret is useful in the investigation.

Welcome to the thread, and thanks for the local insight.

Do you mind me asking, did you actually see Alanna crying when she had to go home, or are you repeating what the one local neighbor said on the news? She appears pretty happy in all her pictures, at home or not.

I saw a video yesterday here I think, that had a different neighbor, a dark haired younger woman stating the same about Alanna not wanting to go home from their house. It may just be she didn't want to leave the fun she was having with other kids.

Two neighbors have stated that. I'll look to see if I can find it today.

Maybe someone can fill in the cracks.
KG did not arrive at home til 8pm so I guess it was either LG her saw her at 4pm or 5pm or dad #2
I am having my doubts about last seen and by whom. I would really like to know the size of the window we are looking thru.

Yes it was said by two different neighbors. The dark haired neighbor from IrishCentral link video and the grandmother with gray hair.

I'm fairly certain it was the mother of the twins and her mother, the grandmother, was the first to say that Alanna never wanted to go home and would sob.

OK, I didn't know they were related to each other.

OK, I didn't know they were related to each other.

They didn't relay that but after watching news casts with both I figured it out due to the twins.

I forgot about Kathlynn and her friend. And of course, the girl in Los Angeles. But we still aren't hearing about dozens of children kidnapped by predators every week. It is rare. On the other hand, we have threads about parents who killed their child very, very frequently (see: Crimes Against Children forum and many "Missing" cases...Well, IMO, in a lot of them, the parent(s) are involved).

Interesting because people have said that homicides against children are going down. Of course, this is not from the US

Ugh. I know somewhere I read that the whole rest of the family was home. Also have read KG arrived at 8.

There were 643 children under age 9 murdered in 1997. There were 385 children under age 9 murdered in 2011. Both statistics are from the FBI.

I been away all weekend so haven't read anything on this case until I caught up just now. I'm shocked that there's been no progress at all, at least publicly, with bringing whoever did this to justice.

It's quite clear from facebook posts and members of the Saginaw community on here that no one feels safe, especially those with children even if LE are claiming this is an "isolated incident"

Like others have said, why haven't LE asked the public for help more? What was Alanna last seen wearing? what is an exact timeframe from when she went missing? Why should the community feel "perfectly safe" if there's no suspects? This was a terrible terrible crime, her hands and feet were tied and a bag over head, that is no accident at all there is obviously a sick murderer out there that needs to be caught. LE need to make advances in this case publicly asap imo. If they haven't a clue, then they need to reach out to the public for help and give more information!

EDIT - For them to be so assured that the local community are perfectly safe, then surely they must have a suspect in mind and are keeping a close eye on him/her? But then again why say they have no suspects at this time?

I am going to hope that LE has a strategy in place and this is why we haven't heard more. It doesn't help reassure everyone though, when they are so quiet.
