Something that has just now popped into my head. Mom and the kids went to camp the week before, and I read somewhere they came home one day because they missed the guys. What if another camper had taken a liking to Alanna and followed them to see where they lived?

ETA, I had that thought too in the beginning but had forgotten....

Something to consider, for sure. Maybe another parent or a camp counselor of sorts.

Don't know if this has been stated anywhere. If she was not sexually assaulted, I think this might make LE think this was specific to just her, not a threat to others.
Sometimes people who are quite twisted in their thinking might think that they were saving her from her family life.

Whether or not she was sexually assaulted also hasn't been released. As the mom of a little girl, I certainly hope not. Unfortunately, the way she was found would indicate it and actions of LE imply it:

"Furthermore, it has not been released whether Alanna was the victim of a sexual assault. However, authorities have reportedly spoken with a majority of the registered sex offenders in the area."

I wonder if the green paint on the red truck was rust paint?

Anyone know if their children are back home or remain with relatives?

They also have a community pool. I am not sure where it's located, but my daughter has been swimming in it with her friend that lives on Babbling Brook. All I know is that it is in walking distance. I don't know how many streets the pool "belongs" to. There maybe other pools in the area as well, serving a different group of homes. Not sure. I need to look at an aerial map since daughter is not home and her friend is away on vacation.

I would be interested to know where the pool is located. One remote possibility is that maybe the perp drowned Alanna (in a bathtub? hot tub? home pool?) and intended to somehow try to make it look like an accident at a community pool but maybe lost the body on the way there or saw that it was too busy, panicked, and dumped the body in the street.

I was just looking at the community pools on google maps. There are 2 close to Alannas home.

You can just put the picture as a link... instead of inserting it, then it won't be huge.

I'm also pretty clueless. But I'll ramble on about it for a while. Here's the whole line item:

"11) blue piece of cloth, middle section cooler and rest of item;"

The person who wrote this is not going to win any awards for clarity.

Maybe a piece of blue cloth was sitting in the middle of a cooler. So maybe the line item is referring to seizing a piece of blue cloth, part of which was in the middle of a cooler.

Maybe the middle section of a cooler was lined with blue cloth. In that case, maybe the entire cooler or the entire cooler liner was taken.

It's also possible that these are basically two unrelated items that are listed on the same line. They did something like that on lines #14 and #18. In that case, they took a piece of blue cloth and whatever "middle section cooler and rest of item" means, presumably all or part of a cooler (which has nothing to do with blue cloth).

Here's the transcription of the listed items of page 7 of the SW (from upthread):

1) Smiley face memo;
2) white scraps of paper or fiber;
3) roll of kleenex cottonelle toilet paper;
4) yellow/clear toothbrush;
5) clear/pink toothbrush;
6) green/white toothbrush;
7) pink/clear toothbrush;
8) swabbing (1)
9) swabbings (2)
10) 3 toilet paper tubes;
11) blue piece of cloth, middle section cooler and rest of item;
12) roll of black duct tape;
13) walmart plastic bags;
14) Hefty cinch sax box with black plastic bags with yellow drawstring and small roll of toilet paper
15) Blue/clear gum microtip tooth brush
16) red/clear gum microtip tooth brush
17) purple/clear oral B toothbrush
18) white trash bag w/ yellow pull tie; walmart bag

FWIW, the handwriting seems to change at #14 in case you are trying to get clues from the context of its position in the list. It is odd to see a cooler listed amidst so many toothbrushes and bags.

I can see why they might take a piece of cloth for fiber evidence and maybe if it had stains on it, but I don't know why they would take a "middle section cooler and rest of item." If there was a stain or fluid in the cooler, you'd think they could just take a swab. So, maybe the blue cloth did have something to do with lining the cooler. :dunno: Again, whoever drew up the list wasn't interested in making this information as clear as possible.

I love all your explanations! :great:

Yes... I noticed the change in handwriting (printing) as well ....JMO

I wonder if they had a suspect in mind...or thought it had to be someone who lives on Alanna's street...but now they are a complete blank as to who did this?

When Opal Jennings was kidnapped...was the reaction that occurred...something that LE would want to prevent from happening again? I am just trying to figure out why they would say it's an isolated event, making the public think there is no reason to worry.

I still see no reason that it cannot be stated what the last time was that she was seen.

If someone is confessing, there are plenty of other details that LE knows that they can ask the confessor in order to eliminate him or her.

The public has given lots of help in the past. The Unabomber was solved by the brother, for instance. Somer Thompson by former roommates of the perp. Mothers turned in their own children.

Anyway, here is the uncut version of MM speaking

ITA. In this video, he doesn't say that the police asked him not to release what time Alanna left her home.

MM states:

"I'm not sure I should be giving that information. I'm not sure the police want me to give out that information...."

MM had just spent 8-10 hours in the police station, but I guess some things are just unclear.

Maybe the parents know the perp and LE knows they know. I mean , maybe they've discussed, ' we think it's a our friend, relative, co worker, neighbor ' etc. Now LE has that info and is trying to fit it together?

After eight to ten hours of being grilled by the police, my brain would be so much mush that I wouldn't be sure whether I was supposed to tell them my name, let alone any real information :p That poor man. What hell to have to go through about a beloved daughter.

I read it as a slip of the pen. it says, blue piece of cloth, middle section cooler and rest of the item.

I think it should say, Blue piece of cloth, middle section [of the cloth is] cooler THAN rest of the item [rest f the cloth]

As if it's been used to wipe something recently and the middle section used to be wet recently and still feels a little cooler to the hand. They'd want to test that

I tend to agree with you on this. Why else would they lump the blue cloth with a cooler. Everything else is listed separately. I think it would look like this.
Blue piece of cloth
Middle section of cooler
