Sleuthing does not mean implicating or accusing. It means digging up and posting information about the one you are sleuthing. NO SLEUTHING THE FAMILY. I don't get what is unclear about this??????

Thank you.

I think quite a few people are unclear about the meaning of "sleuthing" and think it includes at least suspicion. I know I was under that misapprehension until recently. And I have been around for a while :p

So does anyone think that the piece of plastic, pic on pge 3, 4th one down, looks like some kind of a latch, like on a tailgate?

Unsure....but perhaps a cooler latch??.....explaining then what has been discussed IIRC as taken from the SW list as the "middle section of a cooler"? That would be the part with a latch mechanism.

I thought the pic being referenced looked like a piece of torn garbage bag (maybe a piece of the bag she was wrapped in). IMO

Viewing from my phone, I thought it looked like TP.

Let's try to get back on track here. Please remember the rules...

DO NOT post personal information about the parents beyond what has been reported in MSM

DO NOT sleuth any individual who has not been indicated as a person of interest per MSM.

DO NOT suggest that any individual is the perpetrator unless indicated as a person of interest per MSM.

I've said it before and I 'll say it again. Thank you to the moderators. :blowkiss: And if I ever had to choose a case to moderate, it sure would not be this one!

Did someone remove that tape from the bundle? If it's tape it looks like black tape to me.

@JeffSmithNBC5: Police still have no suspects, and ME can't say for sure how she was killed. Scientific tests won't come back until end of July @NBCDFW

  • #131
It is shocking that cause of death cannot be determined, when she was found so quickly. We have seen a lot of cases lately where COD is undetermined due to months or years before the victim is found...but not a few hours.

Since they pointedly said she wasn't strangled (apologies for not finding the link, it was posted earlier today or late last night, and I'm at work and don't have time to fish it out)
anyhow, since LE mentioned and disallowed strangulation, my guess is going to be asphixiation (bag over her face). I think they need to do tissue tests to prove this, unlike strangulation where they can tell by damage to the neck.

just a guess

So people in the know. If that is tape with blood in it, where do people think they were driving to?

Did the hunk of tape blow over there or fall out?

Why is there tape with blood separate from the body?

She was wrapped in a tarp as well as her body being in a garbage bag. Where would the tape come from to be loose?

How big is that tape? Small? Looks big.

I have tried to remove tape from plastic when wrapping a package to be mailed because I goofed it up.

Removing tape on plastic cannot be done if it is duct tape.

Electrical tape is not as aggressive.

It just does not seem like the tape would fall off of her body because of the multiple wrappings.

Any ideas?

I don't know...it looks more like a hard plastic to me...there's two lighter spots that look like screws or something. I've blown it up and turned it all around, but I think it's a picture of a picture.

I'm not going to help with the photo of the black thing.

It looks to me like it is cloth. Could be a strap, belt, car tie, or even a fanny pack.

How's that for confusion?

My only thought is that if the kids moved the tarp and unwrapped it at all, then the tape could have come away. But like you say, duct tape is pretty sticky. Maybe the kids pulled some tape off before realising what they were dealing with.

I don't either.

a) if death was accident, even if there was neglect, I don't think "most" parents would try to hide that......or they'd try to make it look like a different kind of accident - i.e., I can't imagine many mothers or fathers would stage and discard their daughter in such a heinous way if it was an accident they were trying to cover up

b) LE actions (along w/ the way she was found) imply that, unfortunately, there was sexual abuse involved in her death (interviewing area RSOs, statements about waiting for DNA results, etc)
* if it was sexual abuse in the family, I would think they would try to make it look like an accident (drown, fell/trauma) and get rid of anything that would make LE go down the sex abuse road instead of lead them directly to it
* if there was family involvement, they would have more time than anyone to clean up scene/body, make it look like anything other than what it was.....it's summer so it's not like she was expected at school on Tuesday; I would think a guilty family would take advantage of that instead of leaving so much evidence on body they were transporting

But then again, the problem with my reasoning is thinking that someone who would do this thinks the way that I do, so..............

The autopsy would show what the correct COD was despite the staging. So let's say, something happens and Alanna ends up dead, and the parents throw her body in the pool, call 911, and say she drowned. Wouldn't the autopsy show that she really didn't drown? Also, they couldn't claim that she fell, unless her injuries were consistent with a fall.

Please continue here and remember the rules. You can find them right here: The Rules - Websleuths Crime Sleuthing Community
AND don't overlook these!!!!

Victim Friendly

Websleuths is a victim friendly forum. Attacking or bashing a victim is not allowed. Discussing victim behavior, good or bad is fine, but do so in a civl and constructive way and ONLY IF IT IS RELEVANT TO THE CASE. Additionally, sleuthing family members that are not suspect is not allowed. Don't make random accusations or post personal information (even if it is public) like parking tickets, address, or first and last names of all their relatives and their neighbors. Also, never "bash" or attack them, or accuse them of involvement. However that does not mean that family members cannot come into discussion as the facts and issues of the case are discussed.

Social Networks

Regarding Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, and other social networking or blog websites: Links may be used to direct posters to view something on a social networking page. But postings on social networking sites are not considered fact; they are rumor. Copying and pasting, or taking screen caps, directly from these pages is not allowed. Paraphrasing is okay. (Exception: If the Twitter or Facebook post belongs to a verified news station, it may be copied. But a link should still be provided.)

Also, social networking pages may only be linked if they are directly related to a case, i.e. the victim or suspect. We don't want to post to someone's mother, brother, employer, milkman, or postal carrier just because they know the main player. We also NEVER link to minor's pages (unless they are the victim). And be sure that the page actually belongs to the person being discussed. Do not link to someone if you are not 100% sure it is the correct person. And if a social networking is set to private and you get in the back way, you may not post what you find. Private means private!

MINORS: Websleuths.com™ does not allow the naming of, or photographs of, minors (children under the age of 18) on the Site unless the child is a missing or deceased person or where law enforcement has identified the minor as a perpetrator of a crime and the minor will be tried as an adult. If a missing child is found and it is learned that such minor was the victim of child exploitation, references to the child’s name and likeness will be removed, and further posting of such information will not be allowed.

Thanks,

JWPMoyer
