Given that there is no toxicology, are you just assuming she was passed out drunk because her husband said she was intoxicated when she tried to leave?

I'm so glad that there is a cause of death, and it's not a drug overdose because frankly I don't really know why there was so much speculation that this poor woman overdosed when there was no evidence of drug abuse. Was it simply because she was a social media influencer and young and attractive?

Now the path to justice can begin.

Welp, my open mindedness on this case closes considerably with this COD and the friends' statements to news agencies. If law enforcement allowed this to come out at this time it makes me think they're pretty close to an arrest and are giving someone a few days opportunity to come clean.

If she was a 'drunk' (or addicted to any type of drug) as the husband insinuated, is it possible these events of waking up on the floor of the bathroom are from blackout situations? This is not meant to victim shame, but to make sense of what she allegedly told her friends.

I keep coming back to this scenario because I am not sure why she would end up there. Assuming they were in the bed when this happens, does that mean she was carried to the bathroom each time she lost consciousness? Or they just happened to always be in the bathroom when she was allegedly choked?

I did bring up overdose quite a while after her death, because it wasn’t deemed homicide and that is statistically the most common explanation for a young person to show up dead on road without obvious COD. I always believed it was murder but I think it was appropriate to consider the possibility of an accident followed by foul play. That said, it’s time to move on. Her friends and family are vindicated. She was murdered. Now comes justice. Three cheers for her mom and friends (who were raked through the mud!). We should all be so lucky to have such advocates. JMO.

@MoeInVA gave a good explanation for why an overdose was considered. AS’s body was found without readily visible signs of foul play, and dumped along the road the way OD victims are often found. We had also been told that the autopsy was pending toxicology results.

Now we know it was a homicide. Her family would surely want to know the COD as soon as it was available. We don’t know who murdered her. We know that her husband was the last person to report seeing her alive, and that she had left the apartment. Where did she go from there, IF she left at all. Who was she with, and who had a motive to kill her?

Maybe LE knows the answers, but as you said, they are waiting on evidence for an arrest. They may have ruled out certain suspects already.

We just don’t know yet. As we have seen in other cases, they will wait until they have enough evidence to prosecute a solid homicide case before they move forward with an arrest.

What we do know is the COD.
What we do not know, is the tox report, and if there was anything in her system, and/or if their was, if she was legally intoxicated or impaired.

A friend who spoke with The Daily Beast claimed Sharkey was going through a divorce. She allegedly told friends that she and her husband, Tom Sharkey, were basically separated even though they lived in the same apartment. (It is unclear whether the couple had formally filed for divorce.)

During the trip last month, Alexis Sharkey reportedly revealed her husband was abusing her.

“Throughout the trip, he was sending really awful, nasty messages to her,” the friend said.

“But one night when she and I were talking alone she said, ‘He strangles me and chokes me out and I blackout and wake up on the bathroom floor every single time.’”

When I read the friend's comments at the time it seemed obvious where this case would be going. I really hope there is an arrest very soon.

Doesn’t matter if she was drunk, high, or passed out on the side of the dang road. Murder is murder is murder. At this point I really don’t care what the tox says, her life was snuffed out and she deserves justice. And I believe her friends.

DNA testing of foreign substances within her body.. she may have been raped, for example..
Tox might be useful if for example she had been planning on going out socialising with others, had made the arrangements and strong sedatives such as those taken to promote sleep, were found in her body.
It's a vast area...
Such a lot hinges upon whether she left her apartment or not that night.
Regarding her 'friends', I continue to disregard what they have stated, particularly after LE requested silence.
No friends of mine would have spoken like that unless they seriously wanted to either jeopardise the investigation or send it off in the wrong direction.
Either would do me, as victim, no favors.
Real friends would have discreetly contacted LE and told what they knew.
I hope she had real good friends that have remained in the background and testified quietly as to what they knew in a manner that would further advance the investigation rather than jeopardise it and alert a possible suspect.

She was literally strangled to death. I’m inclined to believe that she was telling the truth.

Why Tox?

So why did they say they needed toxicology reports? If they knew she was strangled, how does what she may have ingested/consumed relate to her murder? I understand wanting to have a full picture of what happened but drunk or high or sober didn’t contribute to her death.

Not so briefly. If post is asking --- Why does a ME order tox screen tests, to identify whether any of the specified toxins are present in body? And if these screens detect toxins, then why order tests to measure quantities of those toxins?
Even if ME has identified CoD as something else?
My post is answering generally and offering a hypothetical, not saying app. to this case.

Oversimplified example: naked, dead body is found on road side, no obvious (to layperson) injuries.
Autopsy w no tox screens, no tox quantity tests, ME rules CoD = strangulation; MoD = homicide. Testifies at trial.
At trial, def's (def's atty) concedes he wrapped hands around her throat & choked her but did not kill her that night.
Presents evd to show after ^ that she texted a drug dealer to score some cocaine & she met him.

Defense strategy = she did not die of strangulation but of cocaine overdose.
Def. atty recalls ME to stand, asks about tox screens & quantity tests.
Def atty: Oh, you did not order any? H0w rule out cocaine as CoD? How rule out, if cocaine was not tested for?
Sooo, if doubt in juror's mind = not guilty verdict, and def. walks. my2ct.

That would leave marks. Certain choke holds and movements that IDK the names of would not. Such moves are often taught to military \etc.
