You're not stupid at all. Most people never have to deal with it. I once posted bond for a family friend, so I can tell you how it works in Nevada.

The bond amount is put up so that the person bonded out will have a compelling reason to return to court when they are supposed to. When they do return, the bond amount is refunded to them. The court in this case set $20,000, so the court will need $20,000 before she can get out.

One way to post bond is for her to write a check to the court for $20,000.

If you can't do that, you can arrange for a bail bondman to post the bail for you. You pay the bail bondsman 10% of the bail amount as a fee - i.e. you don't get it back. Typically the bail bondsman does not pay the bail to the court, they just tell the court that they will pay it if you don't show, and they have enough assets that they can do that.

The bail bondsman, in return, executes a contract with you that says if you don't show up and they have to pay the court that they can take your house, your relative's houses, cars, etc. to pay the bail money they had to pay out. To do so your various family members have to agree to it. This means your family (or whoever) has an incentive to make sure you don't run.

Adnoid, thank you so much for explaining how this works, I had no idea. Fortunately, I've never had to do this for family member or friends...Yet!

Here in Florida you can write a check, use personal property as collateral ie car title or title on a house. The fee is similar and if the person who was bailed fails to show to court you loose the property or the money. I bailed a stupid friend out when I was 20 using the title to my car. I had to leave my title with them and it was returned after his court date. I don't remember paying a fee so if there was one it was minimal.

Forgive my stupidity please - how does bond work...Does someone have to post it for you, do you have access to your own assets, therefore enabling the person to do it themselves etc, is it something an attorney would do for their client?

I'm asking because if she has 20k to post bond with, wth were they living w/ another couple, and if she has 20k to play w/ well......Lol, I'm afraid if I post it I'll get banned, so let your thoughts run wild.

Jinxie, Adnoid and others answered your question, but I wanted to echo that honey you ain't stupid. BTW, a billion things went through my head what you were thinking though if she had all that money.

For not only your responses, but the details behind them...Makes alot more sense. I was like damn, she's sitting on 20k or over wth is going on? lol.

Filly, I'll shoot you a pm if you REALLY want to hear my thoughts LOL.

Again, Adenoid, mama, and Deb, for taking the time to give examples and explain the process to me...One last question Is it always just 10%? Can a judge say NO - all or nothing etc? And when someone is out on bond/bail (are they the same thing?) (oops sorry, have more than one lol) are there supervisory conditions? (IE tether, they have to check in, or notify LE of their whereabouts etc?)

Thanks sooo much!

**EDIT** I went back and reread and seen that one is still on the hook for the full amount, it's only 10% when a bail person steps in..So I guess my question is, can a judge ever say that a bail person cannot help or is that when they just don't issue a bail/bond amount? (bound over till trial etc?)

As a point of interest, that's why bail bondmen aren't subject to a lot of the rules about search warrants, etc. to enter buildings - they are enforcing a private contract, so they don't have the same requirements as police officers.

I apologize if this is hijacking the thread - and if it needs to be deleted/moved I understand.

Thanks for the help in learning how all this works adenoid - I appreciate it.

The part I quoted above...if bail people don't have to have a search warrant to "Bust into" a place (going off what I've seen on tv lol) could the owner of that place then charge the bail person with trespassing?

IF it's the home/business/etc of one of the people that put up the bail - i.e. one of the parties to the contract - then the bail bond enforcers can bust in, because as part of the contract they have said they would allow that.

On the other hand, if someone wanted for jumping bail was visiting my house, and I was not a party to the agreement, they could not legally bust into MY house, they would have to wait until the person leaves.

This, at least, is how I understand it.

Thanks so much...I understand it (for the most part) now!

peeples, yes the mom. He came up here looking for his dad who supposedly lived in Baltimore I think. How he wound up in Philly I have no idea. The mom came up here and put herself in Bellevue. I can't find what happened to her.

No update on the trial from today yet.

I remember this baby.

I remember hearing the 911 call released from the man who called finding this baby.

It was the hardest 911 call I have ever to this date listened to it is gut wrenching and the man is hysterical.

Thank you for the update for this baby I'll want to keep up on this trial.

Mullis also was indicted on an accusation he committed or attempted to commit aggravated sexual assault of his child, but prosecutors abandoned the charge at trial, saying if there is a punishment hearing, the evidence would be presented then.

SICKO!!! I hope he dies the most painful way possible!!!
