Houston man, teenage girl plead guilty to murdering Richmond man

Terrell Derrick Funches, 23, and Dalena Nguyen, 19, both of Houston, were each found guilty of murder and sentenced to 40 years in prison for the slaying of Richmond’s Altaf Hussain Malik, 44.

Under terms of the plea deal Funches and Nguyen both pleaded guilty to murder instead of being tried for capital murder. They must serve at least half their sentences before being considered for parole under the plea agreements.

Nguyen, eligible for release on Sept. 18, 2038, is currently at the Hilltop Unit in Gatesville, Texas. Funches is currently being held at the Harris County Jail pending transfer to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
