Police believe missing Cedar Park mom dead, open homicide investigation

CEDAR PARK, Texas (KXAN) — Cedar Park police believe a missing woman is dead as the investigation continues into the suspicious circumstances surrounding her disappearance.

Police are treating the investigation as a homicide. Assistant Cedar Park Police Chief Mike Harmon said Saturday investigators are now trying to locate Amanda “Mandi” Gordon’s body.

“The Cedar Park Police Department and our assisting partner agencies want to express our deepest condolences to Amanda’s family,” a release from the department said.

Assistant Chief Harmon told the media a concerned family member reached out to them after they hadn’t seen or heard from Gordon in a few days.

Officers went to the 2500 block of Cypress Lane near Pearl Lane and U.S. Highway 183 to do a welfare check on her and her two children.

Police say Gordon’s common law husband, Samuel Byrd, was being uncooperative with police.

Officers then became concerned for Gordon and her 2 children — who were still in the home according to Byrd’s explanations. As those concerns continued, police forced entry with help from the Central Texas Regional SWAT team.

After doing an interview and gathering more information, they got a search warrant for the home from the Williamson County District Attorney’s Office and removed the children from the home. The children are safe with family members, according to police.

After a preliminary search of the property, Byrd was taken into custody on drug-related charges.

A tow truck towed away two vehicles early Friday afternoon. One had a Company logo for Byrd’s Roofing.

Anyone with information is asked to call Lt. Larry Bond at 512-260-4766.

TX lawmakers recently approved a "Clear Alert System" here are the qualifications for the program. So far neither local LE nor TX Rangers have issued any alert under the Clear Alert System for Amanda "Mandi" Gordon. MSM is reporting that Amanda "Mandi" Gordon had a protective order in place in 2017 but that this protective order was revoked in 2018.

Cedar Park Police: Missing mother case is now a

Quotes from article:
The Cedar Park Police Department reported Saturday afternoon that they are now conducting a "homicide investigation" related to the "suspicious circumstances" around a Cedar Park mother's disappearance from her home at 2505 Cypress Lane, according to Assistant Chief of Police Mike Harmon.

The department received a phone call Thursday afternoon from a concerned family member of 30-year-old Amanda "Mandi" Gordon, who said they had not seen or heard from Gordon in a few days, Harmon said during his briefing of the press.

He said police officers conducted a welfare check on Gordon and her two young children living at the address. They made contact with Gordon's common law husband Samuel Roy Byrd, who was reportedly not cooperative in letting officers enter the residence. Officers became concerned about Byrd's explanation of Gordon's whereabouts.

Harmon said that based on their concerns about Gordon's whereabouts and the safety to the two children in the home, they used forced entry in coordination with the Central Texas Regional Swat Team. After conducting interviews and gathering information, they obtained an evidentiary search warrant from the Williamson County District Attorney's Office.

Harmon said they used "diversionary tactic" while entering the home, which is likely what nearby residents heard as "popping sounds."

The two children were removed from the residence and are currently safe with family members.

Police took 32-year-old Byrd into custody after a preliminary search of the property, and he is currently facing "drug-related charges."

"Based upon the investigation and information obtained up to this point, we are sad to announce it is our belief that Amanda Gordon is deceased," Harmon said. "At this point in the investigation, we are now treating this as a homicide."

Harmon is asking for the public to respect Gordon's family's privacy at this time as they deal with the tragedy.

So far, no murder charges have been filed in the incident because police are still trying to locate Gordon's body. Harmon confirmed there has been "a history of disturbances at that residence" and a protective order was been recently been issued at the location, but he could not confirm yet whether any of the incidents were related to Gordon.

The Cedar Park Police Department is leading the investigation with assistance from the Texas Rangers, the Travis County Search and Rescue and the Texas Game Wardens. Police have been actively investigating the scene since Thursday night and will remain at the scene over the coming hours and days.

Police are asking anyone with information pertaining to the case to contact Cedar Park Police Lieutenant Larry Bond at 512-260-4766.

Blood found in home of missing Cedar Park woman; common-law husband charged

Quotes from article:

Inside the home, officers also found Byrd's brother, who told officers that Gordon and Byrd had been using drugs. Byrd passed out, and when he woke up, he found Gordon dead on the floor, the brother said. Byrd's brother also told officers that Byrd was having a romantic relationship with another woman.

Cadaver dogs searched the property, and alerted officers to a large shed in the backyard. Investigators found that blood had been present on the floor, the walls and on the entryway of the shed. Investigators also found blood in the residence in the bedroom and the bathroom.

Investigators spoke with the woman Byrd was allegedly having a relationship with. The woman had Gordon's vehicle in her possession, according to authorities. She told investigators that Byrd instructed her on Dec. 11 to buy cleaning supplies and later, to hide a bag he had given her. Investigators later found that bag, which included a handgun, a spent shell casing, Gordon's eyeglasses and Gordon's cell phone.

According to Byrd's affidavit, a neighbor told officers that Byrd is not usually known to put out trash on the side of the road. But on Dec. 12, Byrd put out two full trash cans and six loose bags of trash on the street.

Byrd was taken into custody and originally faced two drug-related charges, for which he posted bond. Williamson County Jail records now state he is now facing a felony charge of tampering with physical evidence. The bond for that charge is $750,000.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Cedar Park police at 512-260-4766.

EBM to add
I hope Authorities locate those trash bags ASAP

Hopefully, they didn't have to use luminol to find all of the blood so that DNA is not compromised. (DNA can often still be extracted on luminol treated areas but it can be more difficult).
