Who was Atatiana Jefferson? The woman killed in her home by a Texas cop was devoted to her family, relatives say.

He was being held on a $200,000 bond, according to the county's inmate information website. Officials said he posted bail about three hours later.

"Slowly but surely, we are allowing ourselves to feel. It's been a lot," Adarius Carr, Jefferson's brother, told CNN's Don Lemon Monday, hours after the officer who shot her was arrested. "Today, itself, has been... I'm speechless about it, I can't put it into words."
Forth Worth officer out on bond after fatal shooting of Atatiana Jefferson

Good Morning,

BBM: IIRC, this is lower than Gugyer's bond - hers was appx. $300,000 - and in this case, there is a Body Cam VIDEO !

Unbelievable.

Now ... is he entitled to a fair trial, etc? Of course.

But if he were a civilian, I am guessing that bond would have been a lot higher.

If the situation was reversed and she shot him, I promise it would be a lot more. But that thin blue line is damn strong

During the press conference on Monday, Kraus said officers typically park down the street for an open structure call, but the heightened response was not typical for a welfare call.

“If they were doing a welfare check, yes (I would expect them to knock on the door),” he said in answer to a reporter’s question.

When we lived in Nevada, I called 911 because my daughter did not answer her phone. I explained my concern over her not answering. They sent SWAT to her home. SWAT knocked on her door, she answers the door, they explained why they were there, they asked if they could come in and look around. After making sure she was OK they left. My daughter said as they were leaving two of them at the same time said to her “call your Mom”. She did and I also got a call from the police department. That’s the way a well fare check is done. God bless Atatiana’s family and especially her sweet little nephew.

@NicholeManna
Fort Worth police say they will soon release the murder warrant for #AaronDean. Dean resigned Monday and was arrested at his attorney's office at 6 pm. I’ve contacted who we believe is his attorney & have not heard back.

Question:

Do we know anything about Dean's background?

I read in a link here that he has been on the FWPD since April 2018 - that's about a year and a half on the force.

Anything else we know about him - any SM accounts?

I did a quick search, and did not find much, other than he graduated from college and the police academy.

TIA!

Lee Merritt reminds me of Gloria Allred. You have the feeling they tend to be on the right side of justice, but something about their involvement just rubs you the wrong way. IMO

He probably scrubbed everything before he was arrested

Warrant for #AaronDean says #AtatianaJefferson was playing video games with her nephew when they heard noises outside. She got her handgun from her purse and was pointing it at window when shot. Interim Chief Ed Kraus said yesterday most homeowners would have done the same.

Though I'm glad they checked on your daughter, sending the SWAT team out sounds like overkill times 100.

Adult children shake off parents' calls for various reasons every day all day. Sending a whole team of SWAT officers seems like a really poor use of resources. But the manner in which they did the welfare call sounds right on the money.

Maybe she has a former partner who stalks/is a domestic abuser, which might better explain your particular circumstance. But without knowing that, it sure sounds extreme.

And here we go with blaming her. I wondered how long it would take

So not only is that poor 8 year old scarred for life, so is Officer Darch.

Yes, they seem incredibly self serving, much as they claim to care about their clients.

At the press conference the police chief did say
“she had a license and any homeowner would do the same
Also, they did not identify themselves as police”

So I wonder, do his Union dues cover the Union bonding him out, or is that something he pays for? Thanks
Shaun King said the union bailed him out

I feel quite comfortable because I would benefit from the conscious or subconscious bias. I live in a very affluent neighborhood-the homes in the front part (not where I live) look like something out of "Lifestyles of the rich and famous." Even my "lesser" section is still very nice by any measure. I have no doubt that the implied SES of a fancy neighborhood brings with it inherent benefits. It shouldn't be that way, but it absolutely is.

I think police training needs to address this kind of implicit bias, as well as more accurate assessment of what actually constitutes "threatening" behavior. They need to do a better job of weeding out the jumpy, fearful types too.

I immediately pulled out the video of Philando Castile’s shooting.

This is a very similar situation. The moment the policeman hears there is a gun, he shoots the man and is panicking himself.

The response is clearly ...well, idiotic and fear-driven.

I think there is a whole type of policemen that get into the job for control issues, but their responses in crisis situations are not logical and create havoc. They are bad for any crisis/post-crisis, for EMT, for mass catastrophes, they can’t even hold crisis line.

If they are allowed to join the police and are trained to shoot, disaster is due to happen.
