I immediately pulled out the video of Philando Castile’s shooting.

This is a very similar situation. The moment the policeman hears there is a gun, he shoots the man and is panicking himself.

The response is clearly ...well, idiotic and fear-driven.

I think there is a whole type of policemen that get into the job for control issues, but their responses in crisis situations are not logical and create havoc. They are bad for any crisis/post-crisis, for EMT, for mass catastrophes, they can’t even hold crisis line.

If they are allowed to join the police and are trained to shoot, disaster is due to happen.

And I'm afraid just like Philando, nothing will happen.

the Botham Jean Foundation has donated $1500 to the family of #AtatianaJefferson. Atatiana's family says ten years won't be enough for Aaron Dean, referring to #AmberGuyger's sentence

Warrant for #AaronDean says #AtatianaJefferson was playing video games with her nephew when they heard noises outside. She got her handgun from her purse and was pointing it at window when shot. Interim Chief Ed Kraus said yesterday most homeowners would have done the same.

And here we go, again. The body cam will show differently, that is if the original video and audio doesn't have technical issues, (Sandra Bland)

Family of #AtatianaJefferson says they want to see body camera video from other officers on scene that night and they want to know how many officers responded, why no other officer responding to the initial call stopped this from happening if Dean wasn't following protocol

The issue is training, plain and simple. I have no doubt that want this man in prison. AND, there is a training issue, the other officer didn't go to the door.

Well, the states should not be happy, either. Aside from bad publicity and fear of riots, they end up paying huge settlements to the families. It turns expensive to pay for the fear, and the mistakes.

I think what they need to do, post-shootings, after the dust settles, is to thoroughly check the types of the people who are prone to such responses. Test all these officers, Yannez, Guyer, Noor, whonot. Even genetically, are these trigger-prone policemen of the “warrior”/“worrier” types? Use all types of mental tests, IQ, ADHD, everything available. Develop a screening tool.

I bet these test exist for commercial pilots. Maybe use them?

I think there are people who can not be the policemen, mentally. They are not ill, merely make mistakes and turn noncrisis situation into the crisis.

And here we go with blaming her. I wondered how long it would take

"when they heard noises outside. She got her handgun from her purse and was pointing it at window when shot"
No I disagree. No one has blamed the victim here. They stated it was wrong to show an image of her weapon. They stated it was irrelevant that she had one. They stated that most homeowners would have done the same. And now they r even releasing information from the other officer on scene that she only saw AJ’a face.
I think it is important that we stick to the facts in this case. It is confusing enough to figure out how AJ was killed in less than 2 minutes from police arriving at her home without throwing in unfounded accusations. Moo

Chilling. I wish this re-enactment also showed the placement of the other officers on the scene. There is a split sec. on the body cam video where you can see another officer also in the dark in the backyard.
I really wish at one of these press conferences someone would give an explanation as to how and why all these officers responded to this non emergency call the way they did. There was a major communication break down somewhere.

2 officers were sent at first, then after the shooting several other officers were dispatched to the scene...

A call log released by police showed that the non-emergency call that led to officers being sent to Jefferson’s house was made at 2:24 a.m. on October 12.

Dean was dispatched along with another officer, identified in the call log as Officer Carol Darch. She arrived first, at 2:28 a.m., and Dean arrived on scene at 2:29 a.m. Jefferson was shot just after 2:30 a.m.

Several other officers were then dispatched to the scene, the call log shows.

I personally don't see it as blaming. She heard a noise, no one could be bothered identifying themselves, and she didn't have it pointed *at the intruder*. It's just my opinion but the statements together are pretty damning

Thanks cc came across that shortly after my post. My questions are slowly being answered today. Almost feel like police chief may be reading my many questions here.
What I really want is for them to figure out what went wrong and how they can prevent something like this from ever happening again.

Lee Merritt reminds me of Gloria Allred. You have the feeling they tend to be on the right side of justice, but something about their involvement just rubs you the wrong way. IMO

Yeah, both are evil IMO

Question:

Do we know anything about Dean's background?

I read in a link here that he has been on the FWPD since April 2018 - that's about a year and a half on the force.

Anything else we know about him - any SM accounts?

I did a quick search, and did not find much, other than he graduated from college and the police academy.

TIA!

He was given the time and opportunity to wipe clean social media and any other incriminating information

And really, there may be not much. He might just be panicky, acting fast, and making assumptions too fast. You would not see it in his media.

It would be more interesting to know how many hours he slept before it happened. If he was prone to self-medicating with alcohol. All these contributing factors.

So now the story is she got her hand gun out of her purse. If they're saying it was the gun on the floor, that must be a huge purse she had.

There may have been information that could have shown many things about him, his character and history and bias to name a few. Not just that he was panicky, fast acting, and assumed too much too fast or how much he slept. That he was given the opportunity that others in the same position aren't given speaks for itself.

You think her nephew would lie?
