My heart is just bleeding for that jury right now. I imagine they each need a box of tissues and a vomit bag. In a way I’m thankful that her cries are not going unheard forever though. They are suffering through this with her and God bless them for that. TH deserves to have it heard. I am not pro death penalty, but I’m not gonna care at all in this case.

Has he been on suicide watch this whole time? Every day he’s still alive I’m surprised he hasn’t killed himself.

While horrible evidence, it is ironclad proof that the defendant is the killer of Athena, without a doubt.

Important for verification that he does merit the harshest punishment available, and is never in society again.

And not just murdered, but tortured sexually.

For an hour.

60 minutes.

3600 seconds.

They may never recover.

I can only hope that happened after she was no longer in the truck.
For the sake of those who are listening to this audio.

Prosecutors are believed to be close to resting their case. Once they do, the defense will call witnesses to the stand.

There will be no trail on Friday, Monday or Tuesday. It will resume on Wednesday morning.

Really makes you wonder how much he has gotten away with before this.

No kidding, when his mother asked him if he did anything 'weird' to her and 'I know how you get' I was thinking...if she knew how he gets, why would you ever let him out of the house alone???

I'm not sure I'll be able to listen to a single word any witness the defense could scrounge up.
Anyone defending this monster seriously needs their head examined.

Probably because the Judge probably wants the jurors to recuperate after this video.... :(

If you can stand to listen to two women who were present in the courtroom while the video was played, both reporting for WFAA , they give a verbalization of the some of the word's and actions noted during the trial. Somewhat descriptive and honest reporting, but hard to listen to at the same time. ETA: Including reporting on the jury, who they said were " Not only crying, but sobbing " .WFAA's live coverage is on break now, while the court is at lunch. You can probably rewind the video to see their reporting.

the reporters discuss the audio playback portion of today's trial at the 38:18 mark of this video.

Caution: hearing of the conversation between Athena and Horner and then what happens after. Reporters say that it is clear that this crime was sexual in nature, you can hear the struggle and her crying. You can hear her crying in in the back of the truck as he is singing along with Jingle Bell Rock. He screams at her to shut up or he will hurt her worse. He is driving and then pulls over again and you can hear the traffic passing by the truck as his torture of her continues. Jurors were weeping as they listened to the first hour. There is still approximately 1/2 hour yet to hear at the point these reporters broke to update. They both say it is very very clear that there was SA. No doubt. Although not charged it is abundantly clear he did that and it was deviant per their description.

They both feel there is no way the defense can defeat the power of this audio and its effect on the jury. It is super clear this was premeditated and they could see no evidence of any alter ego being involved. To the reporters it is very clear he knew exactly what he was doing. One reporter stated "it is the most awful thing I have ever heard in a courtroom"

Oh, no. She asked why he was doing this.

He said because you're pretty.

Oh my god….the jury was not just crying, but sobbing and glaring at him

They said it was totally premeditated…..

This jury still has 30 more minutes of this after break

He left her unconscious multiple times, he starts driving, hears her gasp, stops the vehicle, and then you hear just stomping. My God.

I am sick to my stomach, crying, and just horrified listening to the description.
It's worse than I thought.
The Jingle Bell Rock part is just ghoulish.
That poor little girl.
I need a break, this is getting to me.
IMO.

The account from the two reporters is about the most horrifying thing I've ever heard. I want to vomit. That poor poor child! The monster is singing along to Jingle Bell Rock on the radio while Athena is screaming, after he's already abused, hurt, and attempted to kill her. Horrible horrible horrible.

She was indeed a warrior. The will to live this beautiful child had is astounding, through all of what he put her through she continued to fight for her life with everything in her.

I was worried that a break until mid next week would give what the jury heard time to recede, the horror to fade, which would be advantageous to the defendant. I no longer fear that. This poor jury will go home with little Athena last words, cries and gasps as the last thing they hear in this courthouse this week. I cannot imagine a circumstance where the horror of it all fades in the space of a week. These jurors may need therapy to move past that horror. A few days is nothing.

Defendant is reportedly shrinking into the table in front of him.

Remorse? Embarrassment? Or to hide duper's delight?

RACC belt, I'm sorry, there should be a different restraint on him. If he gets any sort of pleasure from this, it needs to be stopped.

I wish the judge had the power to excise this from his memory so he can never relive it, for his own gratification.

Chemical castration should be automatic alongside whatever sentence imposed.

And they can discuss none of it. Not with trusted loved ones, needed therapists nor even their fellow jurors, until or after deliberations.

IMO we're talking about twelve people who thought they could handle the evidence they would hear who have likely become twelve people who could not.

No one could prepare for what they heard and no one could listen to that without being devastated. On a cellular level.

The high, high cost of justice.

yes. Lots of therapy after but for now they will have nearly a week to sit at home with all that mess ringing in their ears endlessly. 😭😭with nobody to vent or unload all that heaviness with.
