Maybe it was not offered as an option. I can see how the District Attorney would take a lot of flack for that decision in Texas for a man who killed a little girl.

I think it's likely as much as the DA refusing to agree to LWOP as it is an alternate defense strategy. There was so much evidence of his guilt that no jury could have possibly found him not guilty. He plead guilty the day the trial was set to begin..they went up to the wire before TH agreed (I believe) that there was no way he was going to win and his best bet was the sentencing phase where a lot of the reallly damming evidence wouldn't be brought in. I'm sure there was much much more very emotional testimony that we didn't hear. The prosecutor chose wisely what was put forth to allow the jury to answer the 3 questions the law requires with no reservations whatsoever.

The defense had their experts lined up from the get-go and already knew which ones they would use for mitigation. It wasn't an overnight decision for them. I would like to see their witness list....who was deleted because they weren't going to even try to dispute the actual evidence with experts if they could convince TH his best chance at LWOP rested with mitigating factors and they had what they believed were experts that would validate their proposed factors. I'm sorry to say that the defense also considers eliciting sympathy as a worthy strategy. IMO, it's shameful and insulting to jurors.

TH gets no points with me simply because he admitted his guilt. IMO, the plea was pure strategy.

Iirc he trashed his own drum room (shed). At the time of his evil crimes, he was living with his gf's family in their house. And was bellyaching about it. Methinks a freeloader whose alternative is living in his garbage house didn't have any room for criticizing a real house with real walls.

I finally saw a picture of that shed and could not believe the garbage piled outside that had to be walked past just to get in the door. Now his mother has a colossal mess to clean up if she wants to live a rat free existence in her own home. moo

100%. Just like Brian Mitchell, kidnapper of Elizabeth Smart. Crafty enough to pretend mental illness while manipulating the entire judicial system. "Not competent for trial or sentencing" but more than competent enough to manipulate everything. Same as Jorge Barahona, another "incompetent" child killer.

Sadly his mind will be focused entirely on how uncomfortable his chair is, or how thirsty he is or how great the songs in his head are. We know which one on particular.

In TH's world/head, it will never not be about TH.
