When I was in HS, track meets were always chill. Everyone just spending a day outside, getting sun, talk to kids from other schools. It was very competitive, but not in an adversarial way, if that makes any sense.
Nothing as changed over all. That would go double for Frisco centered events.
Though individual high schools can vary in regards to over all income, the area is largely mid to high income (with steadily increasing pockets of genuine wealth) and does not have a reputation for violence in their schools.
Ironically, one of my sons has ran against both the perpetrator and the victim in past meets. He was pretty shaken as he has an awful lot in common with both of them. Anyways, he did not notice any sense of personal rivalry between them, nor did he notice any sense of an increased rivalry between their two respective schools.
Likewise, he did he notice any deviations from the "competitive but friendly" historical track norm that you and
@Tower noted. No juiced up parents and no obvious loud 'n proud "
vicariously liv'in strong through my child" type parents.
Heck, earlier in the season and at an event where future college scholarships are in play, opposing parents of another student walked over and congratulated me on my son's performance (close second behind their son).
No juiced up cheers by the parents and no "
win now- at all costs" pressure towards their son during the event. Their son was happy upon the earned win. But no......
"Ultimate Victory" poses after winning. Rather, just the historical track norm you and
@Tower knew / know.
What happened to change that?
