Meanwhile, CASA and Child Protective Services are working to attend the kids’ immediate medical needs, get counseling, and find a suitable temporary home.

Even neighbors have started pitching in, including Michelle Williams, who said she was the one who originally called 911 when she heard the kids crying.

“For three weeks I was listening to it,” Williams said. “I felt bad, I felt real bad. I only wish I made the call sooner.”

On Saturday, Williams and her neighbors were gathering up barbecue equipment to do a food sale to benefit the kids.

So the children were found just before midnight? She got home early morning with another person but left 8 kids age 13 and under home. She says she didn't chain the kids outside - even if it wasn't her she then allowed someone else to do it (ie: one of her older kids, the children's father, the "other person" who was out with her). Honestly it makes me wonder if she and the friend she was with were at a bar until closing time. What time do the bars close? Maybe she and friend were at another person's home. Wouldn't someone know she had 6 kids of her own at home and ask about the children? How long were the 2 kids in her care? So many questions . . .

I hope the mother is charged, she had to know this was not a person to leave her children with.

Two young children found chained and leashed outside a San Antonio home had suffered hundreds of scars and injuries from months, perhaps years, of abuse, a sheriff's official said Friday.

Doctors who treated the children after they were found April 29 determined they had old injuries indicating a long period of abuse. One of them also was suffering from hypothermia and had a broken arm resulting from the way she was tied to a garage door using a dog leash, Bexar County sheriff's spokesman James Keith said.

Authorities initially said the children were 2 and 3 years old, but Keith says they may be a year older.

She has been charged.

"The mother of the two children found outside, 30-year-old Cheryl Reed, is charged with two counts of injury to a child with bodily injury and was being held Friday at the Bexar County jail, CBS affiliate KENS reported. She was arrested Thursday at a San Antonio motel."

i can't believe that someone heard crying for weeks but didn't investigate or call police. There is something wrong with the animals who did this to the kids but I am struggling with the apparent lack of common sense and decency when it comes to people who don't seem to DO ANYTHING when they think something is wrong.

A third person wanted in a San Antonio child abuse case in which one toddler was chained to the ground and another tied to a door with a dog leash has surrendered to authorities.

Bexa County Sheriff's spokesman James Keith says 36-year-old Deandre Dorch surrendered to deputies at the county jail late Tuesday. He's charged with two counts of serious bodily injury to a child by omission.

Keith said Wednesday that Dorch is the father of several of the eight children found alone at the home about two weeks ago. Six were inside.

A woman who pleaded guilty to leaving two children tied up in the backyard of a Bexar County home is now appealing her case.
Porucha Phillips filed a motion to appeal the outcome of her criminal case, according to court documents. Just two months ago, Phillips pleaded guilty to charges of injury to a child and was sentenced to 50 years in prison.

Phillips, Deandre Dorch, and the children's mother, Cheryl Reed, were all charged in the case, but only Phillips took a plea deal. Dorch and Reed are awaiting trial.

People can be so terribly cruel it's sickening.

I wonder how the children are doing now. I hope they are all in good homes and being loved and thriving.

Words fail me.

Do we have any locals that can help us understand about the area and what is going on in this part of their town?

(Does this ever end? :( I think I'm going to sit this one out. :( )
