GUILTY TX - Billy Joe Harris for rapes of elderly women in 6 counties, 2011

  • #921
snip: The attack in Moody is the most recent reported attack of eight sexual assaults or attempted sexual assaults attributed to the Twilight Rapist.
The same man is believed to be responsible for as many as four burglaries or attempted burglaries.
The victims all have been women who lived alone and ranged in age from 65 to 91.
Attacks have occurred in Bell, Falls, Caldwell, Leon, McLennan and Yoakum Counties.
The suspect has been described as a young man, thin, with dark skin, and 5-feet, 6-inches to 6-feet tall.

I can't believe this guy is still out there! You would think after all this time, and eight victims (even if they are elderly and it was dark), they'd have at least come up with a better description or a composite sketch...SOMETHING!

Two things. First, I find it very odd that Mr. Long of the Victoria Advocate broke this story almost two weeks ago:

http://www.victoriaadvocate.com/news/2010/apr/10/sl_serial_rapist_041110_91905/?counties

Not another news source would confirm the story. Why?

And does it bother anyone else that the graphic they use in the article today shows what appears to be a hazy photo of a black man? To me, this implies that they have a photo or a better description of the man which I don't think they do.

What worries me is that none of us know if the man is truly a black man or a man with dark skin. He could be Middle Eastern, Latino, Cambodian...about 50 different ethnicities. I just don't want Texans to think "that's what the Twilight Rapist looks like". I don't think they were clear about that in the article. You can actually enlarge the photo and it clearly states "Serial Rapist".

Not OK, in my book.

Okay, so I've been away from this thread for longer than I would care to admit (computer issues, working 3 jobs, etc.) :innocent:

I have been reading the past few days, and I have a theory that I need to do some research on before I say any more. It probably won't hold water, but....ya never know. :)

Anyway, I think I remember seeing a post that had all the basic info for the attacks...date, time of day and location. I can't find it...am I crazier than usual?:waitasec:

Well, so far my theory isn't panning out...but I need times...maybe something there. Also, am I correct in 4 attacks, 2 on the same woman? Sorry to ask such mundane questions...I've just been thinking about the trophy heads and clocks. That part seems key to me, somehow.

I remember discussing the fact that she had been assaulted twice but, I did not realize an attempt at assault had been made for a 3rd time. As for collecting the cell phones, I understand the reasoning but, can you imagine the personal info this creep then has access to? All the contact info on friends and family members......

There was a THIRD attempt on this poor woman? OMG....what is it about this lady in particular? If I were her family, I would put her in my own home and make certain that she isn't left alone for ANY period of time in order to keep her safe. And if she's able, give her a self-defense course and gun safety classes.

This is such a weird case.

What do you guys make of the comments on this article stating that Denver DA's office is offering to do familial DNA on this case and TDPS is refusing??

http://www.kwtx.com/news/headlines/92190874.html?storySection=comments

I am speechless......and I have no idea why their help would not be welcomed.
-Maybe they are close to an arrest and do not need the help?
-Maybe they have matched the DNA and are trying to find the person that it matches and do not want to waste the time and money on a test that is not needed?
-Ego?

I am not sure there was a third attempt on this victim.
We discussed the possibility of it being sloppy reporting.
Who knows?

I honestly don't know what to think of Mr. Long's story. I have no reason to question his integrity at all. He obviously scooped everyone else by two weeks. Personally, I'd think that would be a feather in his cap. I just don't understand why, if the info was there, why the other reporters didn't follow suit. But this story has always seemed so "back page" to me. The way the article was written and the fact that he offered the Rangers a profile seems strange to me. Did he take it upon himself to get the profile done by a LEO?

It still bothers me that he did not correct the date of the Moody attack even though several news sources have it reported a day earlier. I'd just like the reporting to be exact. Dates matter.

I'm a little unclear as to whether the Rangers have accepted Mr. Long's proffered profile.

First-time poster here. I live in the area and am impressed with everyone's dedication.

From the Temple Daily Telegram today:

Hope this link works. According to the story, DPS has not established a link, contrary to yesterday's stories.

Welcome lauradee!! Glad to have you. This one is a doozy. Any theories?

The Texas news sources nor the Texas Rangers seem to be much help at the moment.

I'm curious, being that you live in the area and linked us to an article in Temple, do you think there could be a connection to Scott & White?

And, Mr. Vinger, which is it? We're waiting on pins and needles. You took 16 days to confirm that the Lubbock attack was not connected. Why are we a good 8 weeks out and NOTHING?? What is it going to take to ensure the safety of the elder women in Texas. Has Gov. Perry been briefed on this or is he still out shooting coyotes?

S&W is a huge employer and has even more patients. There are a lot of satellite clinics, and since these ladies seem to be in good health, they would probably not go to the main hospital. Also, if it was a home-health provider, he would be recognized. But I do think the medical connection has to be considered.

I am wondering about someone associated with home insurance. When we bought our house, a man came to our door and let us know he was with the insurance company and would be taking outside pictures. He seemed to be a contract person, someone who did this as a side business, that the company called as needed. I don't know a lot about Texas home insurance, but if companies contract out with someone for this job, that would explain the distance. Taking pictures would give someone an idea of location, whether there are dogs or not... Holes in this theory are that I don't think an insurance company would let someone who is not a regular employee access files, and taking pictures of the outside of the house doesn't tell you what's on the inside.

Your post made me remember something -- does Texas have hard water? Could it be a water softener salesperson or do all of the victims use propane for heating, etc??

Just random idea in case it sparks other ideas ......?

We do have very hard water in Central Texas, and many people in rural areas without city-processed water have water softeners. Some in cities even have them.

Most heating/hot water is electric or propane powered unless you have access to natural gas.
