Potential break in 27-year-old cold case

http://www.kiiitv.com/news/local/south-texas/potential-break-in-27-year-old-cold-case/307299021

The last place Elisa was seen 27 years ago was on Whitney Street. She had been walking in the middle of the afternoon to meet a friend. Since then no one has seen her. Until Wednesday, there had not been a new lead in the case for six years.

An active search got underway Wednesday at Elisa's childhood home. Texas Equusearch workers and the Aransas Pass Police Department began looking through the house, hauling in large equipment that appeared to be used for digging up concrete.

Elisa's sister Ruby told 3News that her family signed off on the search of the house.

I just wanted to say that if she hadn't gone missing nine years after, I would think she might be walker county jane doe, just based on age and the Aransas pass connection. But that girl was found in 1980

Blanca Roberson case is discussed along with two other cold cases
This is what happens to the loved ones of victims of Corpus Christi's cold cases
Rhodes believes that the case could still be solved within the next year. In his five years working on the case, he has had to start from square one.

"There were some challenges with how the investigation started," Rhodes said. "The family wasn't initially interviewed for a long time. Now we also have a lot of technological differences."

Rhodes isn't sure if someone will be charged, but he has hope that the case will be solved.

  • Missing FromAransas Pass, Texas
  • ClassificationNon-Family Abduction
  • Date of Birth01/12/1976 (43)
  • Age13 years old
  • Height and Weight5'0, 120 pounds
  • Clothing/Jewelry DescriptionA light blue Mickey Mouse t-shirt, dark blue culotte shorts and sneakers.
  • Distinguishing CharacteristicsHispanic female. Black hair, brown eyes. Blanca has a scar on her right knee and a three-inch circular scar on her left thigh. Her ears are pierced. She was immature for her age and had a shy, retiring temperament at the time of her disappearance. Blanca is a native of Nicaragua. She goes by her middle name, Elisa, and some agencies refer to her by that name.
Details of Disappearance
Blanca was last seen in Aransas Pass, Texas between 4:30 and 5:00 p.m. on August 6, 1989. She was supposed to meet a female friend and then walk with her to the friend's home in the 200 block of south 11th Street. This residence was a black and a half from her own home.

Blanca spoke to someone in the 500 block of Greenwood at the corner of south Whitney, then walked westbound. A short time later, Blanca's friend went to the witness and asked if she'd seen Blanca. She never arrived at her destination and has not been heard from again.

Her mother notified police when she had not arrived home by 11:00 p.m. and an extensive search was launched, but turned up no sign of her. Foul play is suspected in her case.

An anonymous tipster sent a map to a Texas news station in June 2001. The letter purportedly contained the location of Blanca's body. Authorities searched the area near Aransas Pass, but no evidence related to her case was discovered.

One of Blanca's friends stated she was acting moody and "not herself" on the day of her disappearance. Blanca also refused to attend church that day, which is uncharacteristic of her. It is not known why she was behaving this way and whether her attitude was a factor in her disappearance later that day.

Blanca's mother once dated a violent and abusive man who was involved in the drug trade. Her mother believes this man was responsible for Blanca's disappearance, but there is little evidence to support any theory.

Blanca's family moved to Idaho a few years after she went missing. Her disappearance remains unsolved.

KRIS 6 News reporter Greg Chandler looks into this tragic anniversary.... you'll hear more from Elisa’s family this evening on KRIS 6 News.

A group called Texas Equasearch looked for Elisa's body at her Aransas Pass home in 2016. No remains were ever found."

Family still hopes for return of Elisa Roberson 30 years after her disappearance

90

Officially, there are currently no suspects in the case. However, investigators haven't given up.

“We recently brought in some new technology, ground penetrating radar and some things like that,” said Capt. Kyle Rhodes of the Aransas Pass Police Department. “It's allowed us to make some progress into the case.”

Even though the case has been cold for the seven years he’s worked on it, Rhodes does believe Elisa Roberson’s disappearance will be solved.

“I'm not going to sit here and say for sure people are going to be charged with a crime, but I think the potential is there to reach a successful resolution,” said Rhodes.

There is only one successful resolution for Tomchak, and she still holds out hope.

“We want Elisa home,” said Tomchak. “I know it's been 30 years, but a mother would like her child to come home no matter what the situation is.”

I reached out to Aransas PD several months ago and left a message with the Chief about a potential match to a Jane Doe but I never heard back from him. I plan to reach out to Aransas PD again tomorrow.

I looked back at my spreadsheet and saw that I contacted Aransas PD on 05/29/2020 and did not actually "leave a message." I left my contact information with the person who answered the phone so that they could pass my contact info on to a Captain, not the Chief. I contacted Aransas Pass PD TODAY (08/24/2020) and they again took my contact information to leave on the Captain's desk. Hopefully I will hear from him soon.

In 2016, Aransas Pass detective Kevin Rhodes thought they had a new lead. Then prompting EquuSearch to check a carport near a home but nothing was found.

Tests, interviews, and many searches were conducted but nothing new was discovered.

The criminal investigation department in Aransas Pass continues to follow this case and family continues to miss their loved one.

Her mother said, "Not a day goes by that I don't think of her on that last day, every day, all the time."

I have the impression that the person who spoke to Blanca before arriving at her friend's house knows something... it was never known what was spoken to Blanca? From what I read, her family left the area for Idaho thinking that the person who kidnapped or killed Blanca could do the same thing again to her other children... her brother Tony was too young to do any harm to her, I don't think so. that has something to do...
either way
rest in peace

I hate to say it...but her being moody, etc., I'm wondering if she was pregnant. I know she was young, but it can happen. Or maybe not pregnant, but being sexually abused. I'm sure this has been looked into, but it seems like it may narrow the field of suspects.
I do not feel that the brother was to blame, but that's just my off the cuff opinion.
