Details of Disappearance

Carmen was last seen at her residence in the 6700 black of Lanita Drive in Belton, Texas on July 1, 2007. Neighbors reported hearing a loud commotion at her home prior to her disappearance, but no one called the police. She has never been heard from again

She left behind all her personal belongings, including her purse and vehicle, and her three children. Carmen normally kept many of her belongings, including electronic equipment, in her car. She may have been carrying her cellular phone when she disappeared, but it has not been used since July 1.

Carmen's husband, Grant, reported her missing on July 2. He stated they had been drinking together and he went to bed at 4:00 a.m., and when he woke up four hours later, his wife was gone. Grant and his brother are considered persons of interest in her disappearance.

Grant is a registered sex offender; he was convicted of rape in 1984 and served time in prison for this offense. After his release he was convicted of delivering marijuana, evading arrest and three incidents of driving while intoxicated. He was out on bail when Carmen disappeared. He was later incarcerated after he missed a court date, but was released in May 2009.

There was a history of domestic violence in the Garths' relationship. She had filed for divorce, in 2000, but the divorce was never finalized.

Both Carmen and Grant faced pending charges at the time of her disappearance, resulting from a violent argument they'd had with each other. Grant had requested a protective order against his wife; Carmen declined one. Grant's parents resided with them in July 2007; he had recently been released from a psychiatric institution.

Carmen owned a janitorial business at the time of her disappearance, and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She has five siblings and was particularly close to her stepfather. It is uncharacteristic of her to leave without warning. Foul play is suspected in her disappearance, but no charges in her disappearance and it remains unsolved.

Carmen Garth (47)
Date: Jul 01, 2007
Cause of Death: Undetermined
Location: Belton, Texas

I AM MISSING!!! FOUL PLAY INVOLVED!! I am Carmen Garth. I was last seen on Sunday, July 1st, 2007, during the very early morning hours. My last place of residence was 6700 Lanita in Belton, TX...off of Highway 190 and the Simmons Road Exit {Stillhouse area}.

The last time anyone saw me, I was being dragged into my home by my husband, Grant Garth. My neighbors heard a lot of banging, yelling, and a lot of very loud commotion, then everything fell silent...forever for me, because I am now missing.

My neighbors did nothing to help me and never called the police. Of course no one knows anything. I did not just "leave" or "walk away". I left all of my personal belongings, including purse and car, which is not like me.

My cell phone has not been used during the time I have been missing. I have 3 children...Matthew and Emily Sanders and Kristen Garth. My daughter Kristen recently had a birthday and I did not call her or take her a gift, which is also out of character for me.

My maiden name is Carmen Cavallero, but my married names are Weller, Sanders, and Garth.

My husband and his brother are the points of interest in my case at this time. My husband is a registered sex offender and can be verified through the Texas Department of Public Safety and their website. He has also been in and out of prison and is a convicted felon.

Grant's brother Sam Garth (also called Gray) is mental and was recently released from a mental institution, and was residing with me and Grant at the time I vanished.

My neighbors can verify the abuse I endured through him, as can the Bell County public records. No one has been arrested and my family just wants to find out what happened to me and wants to be able to find my body so they can give me a respectful burial.

I am very much missed and loved, so PLEASE contact the Bell County Investigators Department

27 months later, still no closure: Family thinks missing Temple woman is dead

BELTON - The sister of Carmen Garth, missing for the past 27 months, continues to seek closure and wants to remind the community her sister's case is still open.

"I will not let this issue die, and maybe someone will come forward with some information," Esther Jump said. "Vengeance is not for me. I'm looking for justice and closure. We know she's gone, but we need closure."
Ms. Jump said her family believes her sister, who disappeared in July 2007, is dead.
"We know she is," she said. "It's not like her to just run off."
The Bell County Sheriff's office issued a release the week Carmen, then 47, disappeared that said foul play was suspected.

Carmen and her husband, Grant Garth, lived together in a small A-frame home on Lanita Drive, an unincorporated part of the county just outside Belton.

The last person to report seeing Carmen was Grant, who reported her missing on July 2, 2007. He told investigators the couple were drinking together at home until 4 a.m. when he went to bed.

He said he woke up at 8 a.m. and couldn't find his wife. Her car and purse were still at home, but she was gone and wasn't answering her cell phone.

Officials with the Bell County Sheriff's office have refused to comment about whether anyone is a suspect in the case. Tuesday, Investigator James Lewing said there are no new leads in the case, but it is still under investigation.

Just days before Carmen went missing she was involved in a dispute with her husband, Ms. Jump said. She said in response to the incident her mother went and picked Carmen up and asked her to come home with her, but Carmen resisted, reportedly telling her mother, "I'll be OK."

Ms. Jump said she was in Texas on July 1, 2007, for a family reunion and kept calling her sister but received no response. She found out from her mother a day later that Garth had reported her sister missing.

Both Garths had pending family violence charges when Carmen disappeared.
In April 2007, the couple were arrested after an argument turned violent.
Garth told deputies Carmen slapped his glasses off, scratching the right side of his face. He said she also grabbed a kitchen knife and threatened him.
Carmen told authorities her husband pushed her out the back door of their house, causing her to scrape her left arm.
After the incident Garth asked for a protective order against his wife. Carmen declined one because she said she didn't feel like the incident would escalate, according to a police report.
Carmen filed for divorce against Garth in 2000, but never finalized the proceeding.

In 1984, Garth began serving a prison term for sexually assaulting a 20 year-old woman. In the years since then he has been convicted for delivery of marijuana, three incidents of driving while intoxicated and evading arrest.
He was out on bail in July 2007 when Carmen disappeared. Later that year he missed a court date and landed back in prison.
He was released in May.
Ms. Jump said she would continue to send the same message each year until she gets answers.

Carmen's husband Grant Garth passed away in 2010. By two of the memories left on his obituary/memories section you can see some people didn't care for Grant.
