Teenager killed on mother's birthday (San Antonio Express-News)

Though it was her birthday, Kathy Driscoll-Wehner spent her Sunday night like any other, watching TV over milk and cookies with her 17-year-old son.

Hours later, a San Antonio police officer knocked on her door with news she is still having a hard time believing.

“Someone tells you your child is dead and you're like, ‘No, he's in his room,'” Driscoll-Wehner said. “He wasn't. Then I realized it happened on my birthday.”

That is really, really sad. Tragic. Poor woman.

Charles Raymond Wehner, 17, was shot several times in the torso late Sunday in the 6000 block of Donely Place, near Stahl and Judson roads, and died in an ambulance, according to police and the Bexar County medical examiner's office.

The shooting, which occurred a couple of miles from his Northeast Side home, appears to have stemmed from a botched drug deal, said San Antonio Police Detective Lowell Hull.
