On December 8, 2018, at approximately 2:37 PM, the Merkel Police Department responded to a call of a missing person. Due to recent activity involving this person and the circumstances of her disappearance, the Merkel Police Department has upgraded her status to a “Missing Endangered Person” and is requesting the public's assistance in locating her.

Subject is identified as Chelsie Perry, DOB 03/09/1998, 20-year-old female, white – Caucasian, 5 foot 9 inches, approximately 186 pounds, blonde hair and hazel eyes. Perry was last spoken to and seen on December 7, 2018 at approximately 11:00 PM by her family in which she is staying with in Merkel, Texas. Chelsie was last seen wearing a gray sweater hoodie, blue t-shirt, black, yoga style pants, and brown “Sperry” shoes. Family reported that Chelsie went for a walk and never returned home last night and was not dressed appropriate for the weather conditions.

The police are telling us that this young woman went for a walk. And that 15, nearly 16 hours later, they were notified. I am at a loss for words. And the words I want to write..... Okay. Being a father. A grandfather even. I could never get to sleep until I knew everyone was safely where they should be. And I truly hope this young woman is safely found.

The good news is she has been in touch with family members per LE. Her case has been downgraded to “Welfare check”.
