Thank you. I could not remember exactly the deal with the truck, but it seemed it was downplayed somewhat by LE, only to learn with was a huge deal.
The way I remember it, there were two white trucks to begin with and one of them was eliminated rather quickly.
LE actually announced the owner had come forward and was cleared.
The other truck had Mickey inside of it and some people swore her image was ever so slightly visible.
It turns out they were right and LE knew pretty quickly (probably LE obtained the enhanced video after not too long; we didn't know that though.)
Since it was the only lead the public had in the case, we discussed it ad nauseum. That's why we started calling it the damn white truck, and then it became DWT for short. LOL
In the meantime, LE was doing some of the best police work of any case I've followed.
This was revealed in hindsight. They tracked down the truck - he had abandoned the white truck iirc, set in on fire?, but police recovered the truck and identified its owner. Then they found out BL visited an emergency room in NOLA because MS did serious damage to one of his arms. All the while, we weren't privy to any of this evidence.
In the meantime, some people hung on to the idea that the good male friend of hers whose house she rode her bike away from, was the perp. I'm glad I wasn't one of them.
LE recovered her bike but she was nowhere to be found. Unlike with EA, there wasn't any evidence found connected to the friend but some people still insisted he was involved.
I had some cockamamie ideas too. One had to do with a frenemy of MS's from the horse stables or another pertained to an unknown patron from the bar they had left earlier or even that her dad ran over her in their driveway because he left around the same time she would have arrived home.
I'm embarrassed and regret that last theory.
To me it seemed so strange to be leaving for work at that time in the morning (but is common for some lines of work I guess).
This is an example of a coincidence that meant nothing but looked out of place imo.
Still, one can only discuss a damn white truck for so long, right?
But, it turns out MS met with foul play from a complete stranger who was an opportunist.
Police were on his track due to the white truck and surveillance video or lack thereof iirc.
They shared some video evidence with the public too as I recall.
If only we could turn the clock back and have a do over.
WOMEN SHOULD NOT BE TRAVELLING ALONE AT NIGHT.
Young women need to realize just how dangerous it is to do so.
How can we help them to become more aware and take better care of themselves?
Young people think us older ones are trying to ruin their fun or hinder them - even the young men view advice this way.
I figure all I can do is flap my jaws and hope some of what I say sinks in and then I pray.
While I still think it is weird not to have reported her missing sooner...she is/was 23, a full-fledged adult, not a child or even a vulnerable teen. If her mother(s) did not find it that unusual for her to be out of touch for 3-4 days, why should anyone else? And HF may have his own reasons (arguments, etc.) for assuming she just took off for a few days.
My sisters and I have an agreement that if they can't make contact with me over a 24-hour period, they will call my apartment manager and then two close friends whose numbers I have given them. But that is because I am in a city with no relatives, live alone, and have a very orderly routine life.
When twenty-somethings can't be reached, and no one panics, I have to assume it is not that unusual. Jmo
Because her mother knew Christina lived with her bf and assumed she was accounted for.
clu, I can't wait until your kid is 19-24. You'll see!
(Unless yours is one of those rare ones who was born mature!)
