A search is underway for a Houston man who has been missing for a week, according to the Houston Police Department.

Daniel Deshawn Brown, 35, was last seen near the 5000 block of Washington Ave. on Jan. 25, police said. He was wearing a green tracksuit at the time of his disappearance.

Brown’s mother told KPRC 2 her son’s cellphone was found in the possession of a homeless person.

Anyone with information about Brown’s whereabouts or disappearance is being asked to call the Houston Police Patrol at 713-884-3131 or Houston Police Missing Persons Division at 832-394-1840.

It'd be nice to have a bit more info. What was he doing when last seen? Was Daniel on foot or in a vehicle? What's the homeless person have to say about how/where/when they got the phone? Has LE pinged the phone or searched its usage history? What was going on in Daniel's life prior to his disappearance? Yeah...we're gonna need more details.

Thank you for all the links, especially the map! I took a "walk" to get a feel for the area around where Daniel disappeared. It appears to be a good mix of businesses and residences, especially bars, restaurants and apartments. It's a fairly busy place, imo. I know it's only one snapshot in time, but the images around the 5000 block don't seem to show a very large homeless population. I wonder how the homeless person got Daniel's phone. It would be interesting to know whether they found the phone or was given it. I also wonder what Daniel was doing when he was last seen. Does he live or work in that area? Was he out getting dinner or drinks? There are lots of other businesses as well so perhaps he was there for other reasons.

I wish LE or Daniel's mother would give the public a little more information about Daniel's activities around the time he disappeared. IMO, there could very well be witnesses who have tips, but they aren't aware of the fact that they have important information. I hope mom can gather up some volunteers to go around the 5000 block of Washington Ave with flyers.

This area of Washington Ave was ip and coming back in 2010 when I lived there, tons of high end new construction and Washington Ave is basically an entertainment strip with lots if bars and restaurants.

He could have been out socializing or on his way for a run at Memorial Park.

Mom of missing Houston man last seen 10 days ago says he helped pay rent for people battling cancer

ABC13 visited with family and friends Friday afternoon who said they have an idea of what happened and who is responsible.

"We know somebody close to him has some answers," said Brown's close friend and college roommate, Deion. "We've tried to conduct our own investigation. We were told he was heading to the airport to pick up a friend and hasn't been heard from since. We were told the car he was driving was found outside one of the guys' homes. We believe Daniel may have gotten caught in one of their scams and expected compensation out of that and in return what has happened has happened."
But friends and family still do not know exactly what happened, which is why Alma is tearful, yet hopeful, despite being asked to identify bodies.

Houston man missing for 10 days, family says stories are not stacking up

Interesting…

The Houston Police Department says Brown was last seen near the 5000 Block of Washington Avenue wearing a green tracksuit. But his brothers, Deion and Darrel, say they’ve spoken to some of the last people to see Daniel and the stories are not stacking up.

"It’s a very convoluted and confusing story. Supposedly he was over there because a friend of his dropped him off in that area," said Deion. "One guy says he dropped him off at the Heart Club, another guy said he dropped him off at an apartment complex."

Did he have a place he liked to frequent there? Maybe a bartender or someone that works at places would know him as a regular customer? I watched the video and read the article. Who is the person that last saw him in that area and gave that description? Does anyone else corroborate that?

Azure apartments seem similar to mine; that building most definitely has some kind of security cameras. Hoping police and family are able to confirm if he was there at all. Same thing with The Vic apartments. They should be able to confirm those details.

Last seen on a Tuesday night, so I don’t think the area would be super hopping but what do I know? Going to go see if it would be busier than usual for any kind of special events in Houston at that time.

Edit to add Rockets vs. Spurs at Toyota Center that day, so places may have been fairly busy with folks watching the game.

Family of missing Daniel Brown offering $50,000 reward | khou.com

Feb 08, 2022
A $50,000 reward is being offered to help find a missing man.

Daniel Brown, 35, was last seen in west Houston on January 25th.

According to his mother, Daniel had invested in a restaurant in the Third Ward. She said her son had asked for that investment to be returned.

He was last seen on surveillance video on January 25th leaving his home in The Heights, but he never returned.

Loved ones said they found Daniel's car a day later in the Third Ward where one of his acquaintances lived. He told the family he dropped Daniel off at a club on Washington Avenue.

The family said they've allowed police to search Daniel's phone and home for anything suspicious, but they didn’t find anything.

If you have any information you are told to contact the Houston Police Department at 832-394-1840.

You will be running into a dead end if you follow the "acquaintance's" story.

Mother made a social media IG video post of when she was on her way to turn in cell phone. Admitted in video, she is not trusting or helping the cops and only turning it in because cops were accusing her of not cooperating with investigation.

She is pleading on media for people to "let him go". Why assume kidnapping?

The answer will be in this comment by his friend Deion: "We believe Daniel may have gotten caught in one of their scams and expected compensation out of that and in return what has happened has happened."

Search companies and entities with Daniel's names attached to it.

In my experience, the families of the missing always hope for the best, even when there's evidence that something worse has happened.

An arrest has been made.

A suspect was arrested Tuesday after admitting his involvement in the murder of a Houston man who has been missing since late January, police said.

Daniel Brown was last seen Jan. 25, 2022 near the 5000 block of Washington Avenue. According to court documents, police believe 27-year-old Trevyon Tellis attempted to rob Brown and shot him to death.

Tellis faces a capital murder charge after allegedly fatally shooting Brown at Tellis' residence in the 2100 block of McIlhenny Street at about 10:05 p.m. on Jan. 25.

Further investigation led police to evidence that linked Tellis to Brown's death and the disposal of his body, which officers said they have yet to recover.

Suspect charged with capital murder in case of missing Houston man, HPD says

Another tragic incident that didn’t have to occur.
I’ll never understand…

Trevyon Tellis, 27, has been charged with capital murder.

He is accused of killing Daniel Brown. His body has yet to be recovered.

As investigators were conducting their own investigation they learned Brown went to see Tellis the day he went missing and sometime after 10 p.m., he was killed at Tellis' home, which is in the 2100 block of McIlhenny Street.

Tellis was attempting to rob Brown before killing him. He admitted to the crime.

This is still an ongoing investigation as detectives continue to look for Brown's body.

Human remains found in wooded area in northwest Houston believed to be missing 35-year-old Daniel Brown, HPD says

Oh my!

Houston police are awaiting autopsy results on human remains they believe could be of Daniel Deshawn Brown, the Houston man who police said was shot and killed by his own friend.

Trevyon Tellis, 27, has been charged with murder.

Brown’s mother was suspicious from the very beginning that Tellis was involved.

Alma Brown said Tellis’ brash nature disturbed her, and she would not have any peace until her son was found.

“Why do you think he was so bold to still wear (it) after he killed him? Two days ago, he called and asked if I would meet with him and his lawyer because he said I was putting his life in danger. That’s bold to kill someone and then wear his jewelry and be boastful,” the mother said during an interview.

Court documents revealed that Tellis pawned multiple items that belonged to the victim and even used his credit cards to make purchases. When Tellis was arrested, he was even wearing some of the victim’s jewelry.

Judge sets $200K bond for man accused of killing friend after robbery in Third Ward

Police said on Jan. 25, Daniel went to Tellis' upscale townhome in the Third Ward, where he was robbed and shot.

Because of his close relationship with the victim, the case is set to be tried as capital murder. The judge set Tellis' bond at $200,000.

Tellis will wear an ankle monitor, cannot have contact with the victim's family and is only allowed to leave the house from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. for work if he posts bond.
