The child’s father, 27-year-old Luis Angel Pacheco, was initially charged with with injury to a child, but the charges are expected to be upgraded because of the child's passing.
Investigators say Pacheco initially told them he was trying to change his son’s diaper at his home in the 16600 block of Gaeldom Drive when the boy started crying. In attempt to calm the baby down, Pacheco told investigators he tried holding him and changing his diaper but dropped the baby on the concrete floor while walking from one room to another. The boy’s mother was in another area of the home at the time of the incident.
Doctors there alerted the Sheriff’s Office after the injuries on the child were inconsistent with the father’s statement to them. The child had numerous blunt force injuries to his skull and other blunt force injuries on his stomach and groin area.
