A 33-year-old man has been arrested after police alleged he committed indecency with a child/sexual contact, a second-degree felony, on at least two occasions while working at a Southlake day care, according to a police news release.

Police said in the release that Davidson was working at Carpe Diem, a preschool on Randol Mill Avenue.

I’m not here to judge long-haired, bearded men, but I do casework in dozens of preschools and I’ve never seen anyone who looked like that working in a preschool. Honestly, I can’t recall ever seeing a male working in one. He’d stick out right away. Imo

Honestly, it's about as stereotypical a look as it gets.

Thanks for the info, @Tower.
As soon as I saw his pic, I thought that he could look quite scary to little children, and he may indeed be much more than merely scary looks.
He might not be an actual day-caregiver -- maybe he is/was in maintenance or other non-child- related work there. If he was indeed a day-care-giver, I missed or misread that part of the article.
The article, however, does certainly sound like he indeed was a care-giver. <shiver>

My first thought as well.

And of course we know predators come in all shapes, colors, appearances.

There are plenty of male Preschool providers that present this way. (fathers also) Most are excellent teachers and role models. He wasn’t.

I believe you. I just have never, ever seen one. And women can be awful, too. Preschool work is very low-paying in my area and bless all the kind and safe caregivers who work with kids.

It is tragic what is going on in Early Childhood Education. Hopefully one day the direction will shift and the importance of it will finally be realized.

I work with someone whose child attended this preschool. He was in the classroom. He doesn't look scraggly, this is an old pic.

Southlake is a very upscale area. This is an expensive private preschool. Ironically, one of the marketing points is the live webcams in every classroom for parents to check on their children.

This makes sense to me. We can all hope that we judge only character and never outward appearance, but it’s simply not true. My husband looks like a homeless bear of a man. I love him dearly and he’s an amazing father, but he would not make a good impression on parents of tiny preschoolers. It’s acceptable now, but 20 years ago, my best friend with sleeves (tattoos) had to wear long sleeves at work in hot weather to make her look “acceptable” to work with children!

I am not surprised at all that this man looked more groomed when working with children than the photo we see, even though he was evil in his heart.

How awful for that parent! Everyone involved is going to need some kind of outside help to get through this. I do know of an incident that happened between two children that was horrific. There has too be a 4 year age difference for there to be any action other than therapy taken. They were both 4.

Did I take a step back into the 90's?!
I can see I wasn’t clear, and maybe I shouldn’t feel the need to defend my own beliefs to strangers on WS, but I think you all are amazing, so here I am.

I work with hundreds of kids and parents every month in and out of the foster system. I work with the scariest-looking single dads who are loving, kind, and gentle fathers, and I work with wholesome-looking people of all genders who abuse their children, along with every variation in between.

The photo of this man is very, very atypical in appearance to any person I have ever seen in a preschool, but someone reported he did not look this way in the classroom with children.

I do wish we could all see right into each others minds to see who has terrible intentions and who doesn’t. We’d have no need for websleuths.

The dad I know saw the accused around the school but his child wasn't in the guy's classroom.

I like talking to this coworker, whose wife has a well paid job with a professional sports team in the area. They have good stories of parties and games they go to. The big story we'd been talking about before this arrest was an NBC podcast about the town of Southlake being racist.

I'm trying to keep an open mind about the accused because an arrest is not proof. And the town has a history of poor treatment of those who look different. I wish a local journalist would investigate this case.
