Human remains found floating in Liberty County canal

A badly decomposed body was found floating in an irrigation canal approximately 100 yards north of US 90 in east Liberty County around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, authorities say.

According to a report from the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office, Lead Investigator Steven Rasberry estimates the remains had been in the water for several days.

The body was recovered from the chest-deep water by divers with the City of Beaumont Fire Department. The Texas Rangers and a Department of Public Safety K-9 unit assisted in the investigation.

According to the report, based on the preliminary autopsy, the body appears to be a black male, between the ages of 40-50 years old, with a height ranging between 5’ 8” and 5’ 10”. He was wearing a medium size T-shirt that says “League City Intermediate Field Day” and a pair of black or navy blue warm-up pants.

“The preliminary autopsy did not indicate foul play but further testing is in progress,” the report states.

Sheriff’s investigators have checked with several of the surrounding law enforcement agencies in and around Liberty County but so far they have been unable to link the body to any missing persons cases.

I'm wondering if this could be Ruben Jordan. He was presumed dead after Hurricane Harvey, but I haven't heard anything about him being recovered. League City Intermediate is a school in Texas. Jordan worked at the high school in the same town as a gym coach, I believe. Otherwise, this may be the parent of a child who attended the school. I'm wondering who else would have access to their field day

Robert was possibly dealing with some "personal issues" when he disappeared. His car traveled from San Bernardino, California to Salome, AZ where it was located abandoned. From there to Devers, TX is about 20 hours eastward along Interstate 10. Could it be that Robert left his car in AZ then hitched a ride with someone to Texas? If he traveled more or less straight through and left California on April 14, 2018 it seems possible he could have made it to Texas within a day or two (Apr. 15-16, 2018). At that point how or when he died is anyone's guess but that would leave about 9 days unaccounted for before this UID's remains were located. The media article reported that the "remains had been in the water for several days". Eleven days passed between when Robert went missing to the day these remains were located.

The entire trip according to this map is about 22 - 23 hours. Google Maps

These are good potentials you've shared. The timing, locations, and some physical descriptors are close. I do have a concern about Cristian's age (22yo) and the UID's estimated range of 40-60yo. Of course we have no pic with which to compare them, so the UID could be in his 20s I suppose.

IMO, Jesse Ray is worthy of a submission even though there is a discrepancy in heights. Inacurracies in height are fairly common. Jesse had tatts but the UID was decomposed beyond recognition of even his race so it could be the tattoos weren't visible at that point. He too falls well below the est. age range at only 27 but an aged 27 YO whose body has decomposed somewhat could appear around 40yo, I assume.

Could be, but there's no way to know unless investigators do some leg work to find out if anyone interacted with him along the route. I guess too they could do a DNA or dental comparison against these remains. I'll send an email of potential matches with both Robert and Jesse Ray. Jesse went missing so much closer to Liberty County than Robert did so it'd be wise to submit him.
