A Christmas Day drive-by shooting that erupted on Belmont Street as families celebrated the holiday sent five people, including a 6-year-old boy, to the hospital, but all were expected to survive.
The shooting was the latest in a string of drive-bys on the East Side that since Tuesday have injured 10 and resulted in one man's death.
The spate of violence hasn't gone unnoticed, said Police Chief William McManus, who spoke Sunday night at the scene in the 300 block of Belmont, a few hours after the shooting.
I came out to ensure the public we have had a flood of resources over here, he said. This violence is senseless and innocent people get hurt.
