GUILTY TX - Emma Thompson, 4, dies with STD, skull fracture, Spring, 27 June 2009

  • #561
And I will fess up-fwiw I do not want to believe that Emma was conscious of anything that happened the day she died. :(

I can't tell you how much I wish that to be true.

  • #562
Did she take Emma to her own hospital? I assume yes. I am assuming that no one at the hospital would ever imagine an employee there was allowing her 4 year old to be a surrogate sex partner. (Forgive my plain speak. Because Abby bargained her daughter for a steady date....at least this is how I see it. This is what makes her pathetic in my eyes.)

I mean I wonder if she brought Emma to her own hospital-who is going to step on all of those toes when an actively employed nurse who happens to be the daughter of an administrator there looks you in the face and says the little girl really mean XYZ instead of ABC??? Again, JMO.

If I were a journalist looking for a good story, that is where I would start. I would drill this out to the hospital she brought Emma to and see what kind of bearing Abby's employment had on why they let her walk away with Emma 3 weeks before Emma died. In my mind, Emma was killed because she told. Coe knew that there was no going back this time when he hurt her the day she died. I also believe he knew he had a complicit partner in Abby.

While we wait for Coe, I think we should make sure that Abby's nursing license has been yanked, suspended whatever dont you?

From the articles I read, when she left in her vehicle to take Emma to the ER (rather than calling 911, giving Coe an opportunity to leave the house with his daughter without being "caught"), she was going to a hospital in the area of her home. I believe at the time (according to news articles) she was working in downtown Houston which wasn't close to her home.

IIRC, her mother works for a hospital Foundation - the fundraising division of a hospital - she's not the CEO of an actual hospital.

IAY (inmate AY) only worked at the hospital in her mother's hometown for a couple of weeks and was in orientation the entire time. From what I read, (I'll find the article), she was on her first night shift on the floor (supervised and not giving direct patient care) when she was arrested on the job.

Just a few observations.

You know, the statement BT made about ay waving as lc went upstairs makes me wonder. ay was obviously smitten with lc (:waitasec: -incomprehensible IMO...), so why be so willing to share her daughter with him? She strikes me as the jealous type. Perhaps that is why she allowed Emma to be killed ('cause in my mind, that is what happened - despite what the jury decided)?? And why only Emma? There was another daughter from her union with BT....(hope this doesn't get me banned)

IWK, could BT have been referring to Coe carrying Emma up to "put her to bed"? Either AY refusing to see what was going on or BT went from Point A (Emma was abused) to point B (the kids told him Coe would take her to bed and AY would wave goodnight). IDK... Cos I can't really see her wanting to share her "kinky" new guy either. (GAG)

Pedophiles have a type and age - they generally stick to it, the fact that there are single women with kids make it very easy for them to find their victims.

  • #564
I will be interested to find out if Coe is a pedophile.

A compilation from various reports leading up to Coe and IAY being charged...

She drove down the street, then called 911 and ambulance met her - she claimed she stopped when Emma loss consciousness but the paramedics(?) believed Emma was deceased before leaving home.

IAY gave different stories to different neighbors but said the injuries were caused by CPR and bruises on Emma's thighs were from IAY pulling an unconscious Emma from the car!

In front of LE and others IAY told her oldest daughter how good Coe was to her and the girls how he never hurt anyone.

A neighbor commented IAY was remarkably normal when she returned from the ER after Emma died. Her atty called it "shock from the unexpected loss" when did shock become another word for ''ugly coping"?

The mother called 911 at 7:30 p.m. while driving the girl to the hospital in The Woodlands. After the child became unconscious, the mother called for an ambulance while at the intersection of Gosling and West Rayford Road, Nelson said.

Two motorists stopped to help and found the child had stopped breathing, so they performed CPR until an ambulance arrived, Nelson said. The child was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Benjamin Thompson said his wife, Abigail Young, told him that his daughter Emma, 4, had a “childhood” version of herpes that turned into the sexual disease that adults contract. He also said his wife told him that their daughter could have contracted the disease from a toilet seat. Another explanation was they were contracted at the swimming pool.

Homicide division Lt. Rolf Nelson said the child had bruises and cuts on her body.He said “Either there were no explanations offered, or the explanations offered for the cause of the injuries were not plausible,”

Both parents said the child had no other contact with adults, except maybe at a local swimming pool.

Some of the injuries also occurred before the day the child died, Nelson said.

Olguin, the CPS spokeswoman, said Emma shook her head, “no” when asked whether anyone had touched her inappropriately.

CPS started investigating a complaint of neglect and possible abuse involving Emma on June 8.

The pediatrician did note to investigators that the child had a 102-degree fever and blisters on her fingers, inside her mouth and in her vaginal area and that he ran a series of tests. the tests came back positive for genital herpes.

Clayton said she confronted the child's mother about her daughter's condition.“She had no idea where it came from,” Clayton recalled, though Young, 33, is a registered nurse.

BBM - and Emma shaking her head "no" will surely save that CPS case worker's job.

What do they say about the phrase "No Idea"? That it means the person is lying and does have an idea!! (on Eyes for Lies)

Harris County investigators arrested Young around 5:45 p.m. Monday at Trinity Medical Center in Brenham. wearing scrubs and had an ID badge for Trinity Medical Center- I guess you can't work at Texas Women's if you're under suspicion for murder!

Abigail's mother is the Director of Trinity Medical Services Foundation (Per KWHI -1280) ie; she gets $$$ donated by filing for grants and running fundraisers.

Trinity Medical Center CEO John Simms said when Young was hired, a background check revealed no charges filed against her. He also said Young had access to children at the hospital, but it was supervised.

Emma died June 27 at Memorial Hermann-The Woodlands Hospital after she became unconscious and stopped breathing as her mother was driving her to the emergency room.

I read recently and have been trying to find the source that IAY was just finished with orientation and had finished 1 shift at the new job she got because her mother is a big wig on the hospital board.

Several employees had resigned from the hospital when IAY was hired, and the powers that be wouldn't fire her - prior to IAY being charged.

Texas Board of Nursing Examiners records show the child's mother has been licensed as a registered nurse since June 2001 . Her license is set to expire Aug. 31. “From everyone's accounts, relatives and friends, she's a ‘gifted' nurse — this is a term they use,” Nelson said.

Can anyone explain for real why she was not charged with murder? and sentenced to death or life w/o parole? What the DA claims makes less and less sense by the minute....

  • #566
Nope, can't explain it because it doesn't make any sense.

  • #567
I can-politics. JMVHO. Someone somewhere had to pull some strings-And how about Coe? IIRC he has an extra-aggravated sexual assault charge he is facing, right? Where is his first or second degree murder charge?

  • #568
I bet the Homicide cops are seething, fwiw. I mean, this was a Homicide investigation and a murdered child-and no one is being tried for Homicide?

I know that some DA's wont stack charges that carry similar penalties but I have never know TX to be that kind of state. Some DA's will pick the charge that has the most severe penalty but is the easiest to prove and go to trial with that.

LCoast, who is the DA in Coe's case? Is it also Colleen Barnett??? Cause I am feelin some letter writing coming on....

  • #569
It makes me ill that no one has been charged with the murder of this beautiful child. I don't understand. Politics be damned, this is just wrong.

  • #570
I have been doing a search to try and get a sense of the rationalization behind the charges etc. And I have found two things in articles that have been previously linked here:
1.) Emma suffered all of her injuries (fractured skull, rape and pancreas injury) 12-24 hours prior to her death. So if we do a timeline, IAY's response makes little to no sense at all. Except the super glue part. Which was a CYA.

2.) Justice For Children is a high profile organization in Houston that helped to write the Federal Adoption and Safe Families Act in 1997-what is most relevant about this is that the act gave CPS the power to disrupt families if a child showed any sign of sexual abuse-this nullifies the defense CPS is putting forward regarding not removing Emma from the home. Small consolation.

I think I will see if I can contact Justice For Children this week and get a sense of their thoughts about this case-I know they have been applying pressure and one of the founders has been interviewed regarding it.

A little more info from the Houston Chronicle on some additional cases that were front and center at the time of Emma's Murder:
snip
HOUSTON — The deaths of three Houston-area children from abuse since April have prompted a state review of Child Protective Services' investigations in that region.
The children — Katy infant Amber Maccurdy, David Tijerina, 3, of Conroe, and Emma Thompson, 4, of Spring — were killed by abuse after they were reported to CPS as possible victims. CPS investigators saw Amber and Emma within weeks of their deaths.
David, who died Monday from blunt trauma to his abdomen, was seen by a CPS worker just six days before he died. Noah Herrera, 30, a man described as like an uncle to the child, was charged Friday with capital murder in his death. Three others — David's grandmother, an aunt and a family friend — have been charged with injury to a child.
snip

I dont understand. David died of blunt force trauma to his abdomen as well-and there is a capital murder charge on the table. Why not Emma???

Ok, this is gonna piss me off.

  • #572
Conroe Texas is Montgomery County and Spring Texas is Harris County.

We need a legal eagle here-is it too late to add a capital murder charge to Coe's case? Emma suffered her injuries in the care of Coe and Young 12-24 hours prior to death. I agree completely that she was dead before Abby left the house and made her nonsense 911 call from the side of the road....umm, where is the capital murder charge here?

I'm looking up the info re the DA, I do remember they were brought in side by side, when the judge held them over.

Coe also has multiple charges re: his former gf whose son he was beating the tar out of over several years. No mention of sexual abuse of that little boy.

How's this for reaching???? Coe's atty was asking for the personal info on writers of 300 comments!

A lawyer for Lucas Coe, charged in the death of 4-year-old Emma Thompson, has asked several local media outlets to provide the names of readers and listeners who commented about his client online.

Bert Steinmann, The Woodlands-based attorney for Coe, said he was struck by the conclusions people drew about his client and the specificity of some comments that made it appear they came from people with personal knowledge of the case.

Coe's criminal history reveals some troubling facts, any of which might have altered the turn of events that led up to Emma's murder.

Are soft charges a reflection of the county's culpability in failing to protect Emma Thompson?

While Coe was serving six years probation for a 2002 assault in Harris Co, he was convicted of DWI, pled guilty to a Montgomery County assault, failed to meet with a probation officer, got behind in his restitution to the Harris County victim and was indicted on a child abuse charge in Montgomery County.

Coe was sentenced to six years probation, $40,000 dollars restitution and 800 hours of community service in 2003, following a 2002 - Harris County aggravated assault charge.

Four motions to revoke his probation in the Harris County case were made: two in 2005 and two in 2008.

Two of those were overruled by state District Judge Marc Carter. Two others were dismissed by the judge at the request of prosecutors in the case.

At least twice in that period, Coe was jailed for violating the terms of his probation.

He missed a Montgomery County court date on a 2007 charge of injury to a child, because he was in the Harris County Jail serving time for violating terms of his Harris County probation!

June 8, 2005: Motion to revoke is filed after Coe commits a DWI. Judge overrules it.

Sept. 29, 2005: Motion to revoke is filed after he fails to report to probation officer. Judge overrules it.

Feb. 20, 2008: Motion to revoke is filed, based on his child abuse indictment in Montgomery County. Motion dismissed.

Dec. 12, 2008: Motion to revoke is filed based on Coe's failure to perform community service, indictment in abuse case, failure to pay restitution. Motion is dismissed.

Feb. 9, 2009: Coe fails to show up in court in Montgomery County child abuse case because he is jailed in Harris County. Still, his bond is not revoked. In fact, the bond is reinstated.

March 25, 2009: Lucas Coe's six- year probation ends.

June 27, 2009: Emma Thompson is murdered.

“The Harris County Sheriff's Office-Homicide Division waited 6 weeks for autopsy results from the Southeast Texas Forensic Center in Conroe before approaching the District Attorney's Office with charges in this case

Montgomery County Justice of the Peace Edie Connelly said an autopsy determined the child's death is the result of a homicide.

A pathologist with the Southeast Texas Forensic Center in Conroe ruled that Emma died as a result of blunt abdominal trauma, which caused the child to bleed internally, Harris County sheriff's detectives said. “The manner (of death) was consistent with homicide,” Kelly said.

Kelly said that prosecutors opted for the felony injury to a child charge because it was the best way that both could be accused for the crime. He said it could be upgraded to murder as the investigation continues.

Assistant District Attorney Colleen Barnett said that, according to the autopsy, the numerous injuries that lead to Emma's death happened within the last 12 to 24 hours of her life.

Before Emma Thompson's death on June 27th, 2009 - Montgomery County CPS officials had investigated Lucas Coe not once, but three times involving another girlfriend's child.

Montgomery, Harris and Galveston counties, all have priors on Lucas Coe! Including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, two driving while intoxicated cases and criminal mischief.

Detective Ron McGullion said Coe was arrested in 2002, after intentionally crashing his vehicle into a car occupied by several people, badly breaking one man's leg. The parole ended in March 2009.

In 2005, 2006 and 2007 — while on parole - according to prosecutor Frank Barnett. Coe was indicted on charges of injuring the son of another gf.

In 2005, the injuries to the boy who was 5 at the time, included two black eyes, bruising on one cheek, a bruise on his back and a light bruise on one of his buttocks, said CPS spokeswoman Gwen Carter. When CPS discovered the boy's injuries, he was removed from the home. The case was closed in August 2005 when the mother claimed her relationship with Coe had ended.

In 2006, the child had bruises to his face, ears, shoulders and chest, as well as a busted lip. He told caseworkers another child at school hurt him and he had fallen, but he also said Coe had twisted his ears. CPS concluded no abuse occurred and closed the case!

The third time in March 2007 when the agency investigated a complaint of physical and emotional abuse, to the same boy, then 7. CPS discovered the boy living with Coe, along with a 2-year-old girl, that Coe had fathered with the boy's mother. The agency took custody of both children, who later went to live with grandparents.

In July 2007, Coe was accused of striking the boy on the head and body with his hand.

“Looking at it, I think there's some follow-up that should have been done,” CPS spokeswoman Gwen Carter, said of the case. “Just reading this, I think there's some things the caseworker should have gone more in depth with, knowing the history.”

Ya think??? Wow. Just wow.

8/1/2009 - Two more children who had contact with Lucas Coe were taken into protective custody after Texas Child Protective Services confirmed the 4-year-old girl, had been sexually abused. According to an affidavit filed with a Montgomery County court. The Montgomery County tot told medical staff she had been touched inappropriately, an exam confirmed she had been sexually abused.

The other child, a 9-year-old boy, had not been sexually abused, but was living in the same home. Both children were placed into a foster home. CPS' says their investigation is continuing.

When IAY left to take Emma to a hospital, Coe allegedly told their neighbor Christie Frazier, that he had recently been ordered by CPS to stay away from his own child. Records show and officials confirm that Coe has been indicted for injury to another child and as a precaution, custody of his child had been transferred to his own parents.

And yet she was at the house the day little Emma was murdered.

So why couldnt they charge them both anyway? One felony injury to a child (Abby) and one with homicide, special circumstances because it involved rape of a child (Umm, that would be Coe)?

This does not make sense to me.

The Houston papers are doing a great job covering this, but is anyone asking the DA the hard questions on the charges being filed? Just wonderin....

Every time I think I could not be anymore disgusted with this travesty of justice to a baby who was let down by everyone who should have been protecting her, I am found wrong...

Nov 4,2009 Emma suspect now accused of raping her

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/metropolitan/6703970.html

Young, Coe's girlfriend, also has genital herpes, according to the 33-year-old's attorney, Colin Amann. “She does not know where she got it,” he said.

“She may have gotten it from Emma.”

Young has said that before she left her three girls with Coe so she could go shopping at a supermarket, Emma was fine. Young said when she returned, Coe met her at the door with Emma in his arms. He said that Emma was sick, Young said.

(We know this is a lie, unless she spent 12 hours shopping....)

On Oct. 29, Harris County grand jurors returned an indictment against Coe, accusing him of Emma's sexual assault. If convicted, he would face a minimum of 25 years in prison because the victim was under the age of 6.

Coe's attorney says there is no evidence that connects his client to the sexual assault.

“I saw nothing in the file that would indicate how he could have perpetuated the crime he was indicted for,” said Bert Steinmann, Coe's attorney. “I am clueless... (TRUER WORDS WERE NEVER SPOKEN.)...
..as to how they are connecting him with committing the sexual assault.” This would mean what; Coe doesn't have a penis?

  • #577
So she is blaming her FOUR YEAR OLD daughter for her herpes???
WTF?
Umm wasn't it proven Coe has the same strain of herpes?
Even after all this AY Still can't bring herself to blame Coe for anything can she?
WOW!

You know, it really depresses me that the name "mother" is denigrated by being associated with AY.....

I hope they tested Emma's two sisters for herpes as well, along with examinations to ensure they, too, weren't assaulted.
