Saturday, wife (Chacey Morman-Poynter) chased down cars and told police her husband had been shot. After she made conflicting statements, she was arrested. Another male was arrested as well.

Her facebook reminds me of the TX mom who recently shot her 2 daughters. Lots of filtered pictures, mostly all pictures of herself. Not one picture of her husband. Her mugshot looks nothing like her facebook pictures.

New details are emerging in the murder of University Park Fire Captain Robert Poynter.

Chacey Poynter, Robert's wife, is currently being held in the Hunt County Jail on a charge of conspiring to commit murder. Her boyfriend, Michael Garza, is charged with murder. His bond was set at $1 million on Tuesday.

In newly released documents, Royse City police say Chacey Poynter told them her husband was abusive and she had been dating Garza while being married. When Robert filed for divorce and threatened to take their daughter away, Chacey told police she turned to Garza, who told her he was a "shot caller" and could have anyone killed.

Prosecutor: Garza was 'obsessed,' planned husband's murder, texts show

A 2016 murder in Royse City was the culmination of a tryst between the victim’s estranged wife and a truck driver who kept in touch via text messages, prosecutors told jurors Tuesday during opening arguments in the murder trial of one of the accused killers.

The trial of Michael Glen Garza, one of two people charged with fatally shooting University Park Fire Department captain Robert L. Poynter III, will enter its second day today as testimony begins.

During his opening argument Tuesday, Assistant District Attorney Calvin Grogan told the jury in the 354th District Court that the defendant left a trail of digital and cell phone records and other forensic evidence.

Garza takes the stand Thursday, final arguments being made today
At Thursday’s proceedings in the case, Garza took the stand, where he was asked to read several of the text messages exchanged between him and Chacey Tyler Poynter, the victim’s wife, who is charged with conspiracy to commit murder in connection with her husband’s death.

Many of the Chacey Poynter’s texts to Garza claimed that her husband was abusive, and on Sept. 6, Garza replied with “F— your place, come to my house.”

Garza found guilty of murder
After waiting for a year and 10 months – family, friends and co-workers of former University Park Fire Department Captain Robert L. Poynter III received some amount of closure Friday when jurors found Michael Glen Garza guilty of the firefighter’s murder and sentenced him to 99 years in prison.

Over the last two weeks, prosecutors presented jurors with text messages, crime scene and autopsy photos and videos, and physical evidence as they alleged that Poynter’s wife, Chacey Tyler Poynter and Garza were involved in an affair and acted together in the shooting death of Robert Poynter on Sept. 9 2016, in Royse City.

When Poynter’s father, Robert Louis Poynter, Jr., took the stand, he recalled the moment when young Robert Poynter III decided he wanted to “help people” for a living. In the story, the grieving father talked about a time when he stopped to render aid to people who were in a serious auto accident while his son (and namesake) was riding with him.

“He told me he wanted to help people just like I did,” Robert Poynter, Jr. said.

Later in his testimony, when Robert Poynter, Jr. described what it was like losing one of his children, he said, “I always use this analogy. It felt like someone took a hacksaw and cut out part of my soul.”
