anyone else love the expression HOLY CATS from @MrsWatson? (while we wait for news, I am taken by this simple and silly phrase and will add it to my rotation!)
I cracked up laughing. Still brings a giggle…

Thanks for finding a link @imstilla.grandma. Such a tragedy all-around.

Very strange indeed, and not the first time weird things have happened to soldiers in this area of Texas

I was struck by the name Fort Cavazos, had never heard of it and saw the story mention Killeen. My dad grew up in the area and my grandparents lived there since the 1940’s. So Killeen and Fort Hood I know- Fort Cavazos I do not.
Well… Earlier in May 2023 Fort Hood was renamed Fort Cavazos.
So if you are looking up missing soldier cases from this area, use the name Fort Hood.
I have no issue with the name change, but I do have issues with the clean slate it gives any military base where issues have happened In the past.

Hoping this situation with these two spouses is looked into by someone other than military until answers are found because this story stinks like 4 day old raw fish!

Fort Cavazos: Soldier missing since Monday

"Chamberlain's wife, Cam Chamberlain, told 6 News that the Army CID has 30 to 40 people actively searching for her husband. But, she continues to worry and wonder where her husband is... still with no answers.

"I wake him up on Monday to go do some errands and it's like something just flipped. A switch just flipped with him," Cam Chamberlain said.

A typical Monday of going to the bank and running errands, turned into a nightmare for this military wife.

"After three days of not hearing from him and then not being able to ping his cell phone and then finding out he is AWOL, those were when the alarm bells started ringing that my husband is probably in danger right now," Cam Chamberlain said.

Chamberlain was last reported seen leaving his home in Killeen around 6 P.M. on Monday, May 15th.
But, his unusual behavior reportedly started months before.

"Since February or March, he has been completely AWOL," said Chamberlain. "Nobody has had any contact with him from the army. I don't see how a soldier just disappears for months on end from the army and them not have any explanation."

Chamberlain says that her husband has continued to struggle with his mental health on post.

"I am worried that he's in danger because about two weeks ago he told me he was experimenting with drugs because he hated Fort Cavazos," Chamberlain said. "He hated the leadership and everything. He was using that to cope."

I find it odd and interesting that she says Fort Cavazos, the name was only officially changed May 2023. That means for all the time they’ve lived there this place was called Fort Hood.
Why is she using Fort Cavazos?
Anyone?

My understanding is that Craig received orders to Korea in december and should've reported to his new base between the end of february and the beginning of march. By all accounts, both Craig and Cameron were expected to actually make the move to Korea, hence they moving out of their previous home into a "friend's" house.

He stopped showing up for work at Fort Cavazos in february, which would make sense with him moving into his new duty station in Korea. Everyone at Fort Cavazos expected him to be en route to the new duty station, when he didn't show up there I'm assuming Fort Cavazos tried to establish contact with him but it wasn't possible until may 15, when they were finally able to reach his wife.

I suspect Craig has been missing since the end of february. It seems like the US Army has reason to believe that he went AWOL on his own accord BUT it seems like something really bad happened to him regardless. She threw him under the bus with her statements about his leadership and the base, so him coming back would be even harder with those statements on top of his AWOL status. It really sounds like he has been dead this whole time and she knew it. It also seems like she commited suicide.

Where is this "friend"? When was the last time someone other than Cameron saw Craig in person? When was the last time Craig talked to his parents on the phone?

I have yet to see a single MSM report from a Waco-based station (maybe they exist but I looked and couldn’t easily find): somewhere in Waco there is a network-affiliated young reporter who is curious and aggressive and looking to distinguish himself, and he is at this moment unaware that there’s a missing soldier with a deceased wife where there’s quite a lot that makes this story - unique? How can we find that guy on Twitter and convince him to go get in the car and start calling his contacts? Because this is a lead story on tomorrow night’s Waco KXXX station broadcasts.

I can't find anything else about her death (in MSM; there's plenty on FB, military spouse pages, etc). No obituary, nothing. It was stated she was "found dead".<modsnip: No MSM or other approved link to support such speculation>

I will be absolutely gobsmacked surprised if this does not end up in a murder (then later) suicide. I also would bet my lunch money that he has been deceased for atleast the last month and she knew.

OT - anyone else getting the ad for the t-shirt that reads "I will put you in a trunk and help people look for you"

Site centric ads crack me up

but I'd never wear a shirt that said that, wow. It's sorta funny but not.
OMG, yes!!!!! I am!!!

Just WoW.

I checked the Killeen TX PD and Bell County Sheriff websites and could find no press release for this info. It seems odd to me that it is Fort Cavazos reporting the death of a dependent spouse except when the death occurred on post, IOW federal land jurisdiction and not in the city of Killeen where the spouse was residing and not elsewhere in the county. So did Cameron go on post somewhere perhaps to an appointment at CID or the hospital ER? JMO they are being very closed lips about all of this.

Suicides are not generally reported as news, correct? If this is suicide, it might certainly be newsworthy (to us) because of the circumstances around her husband’s disappearance, but otherwise, not something that is generally reported, IME.

Craig's case is slowly getting publicity and everyone was very suspicious of what the wife was saying because it made zero sense. I wonder if she, as a dependent, was found unconscious or called 911 herself and was taken to the hospital on base, thus them having to report it.

Her statements about him being a different person before the military doesn't make much sense because I have no reason to believe they met when he was still a civilian.

I won’t take that bet. Why not? Because I’d lose and they’re having my favorite chicken fingers for lunch today and I’m hungry…ITA!
