Rescued Family now on the lam from the FBI
December 6, 2014

...Trochesset said when the boat was recovered, enough supplies were inside for a long trip.

Thanks for the quote - cant read the article without signing in - but, that seems to make sense - they were loaded up to take off for good. Not a holiday, but leaving the Country.
I'm still reeling that they were taking the children with them and trying to make such (now suspected) a long trip.
I'm glad they got no further than they did. If they cant get help to get off a sandbank - heaven help them if they had gone out further and got into trouble.

I wonder if they have tried to change their appearances (and their children's appearance) in some way? Or split the family into groups to not be so conspicuous?
I hope the little baby is OK after her ordeal...

This was the only other info in the story I haven't read anywhere else...tho I may have missed it elsewhere :blushing:

...Officials have reason to believe the family may have made it to Mexico.

The couple was identified as Donald Winberg, 43, and Karlien Winberg, 33, who have been fleeing FBI wire theft charges with their seven children since April. The Winbergs are wanted in an alleged million-dollar hay business con, according to court documents and reports from law enforcement officials.

Mildly interesting comments below this article, but no new info.

They had been staying on the boat at the Watergate Yachting Center, but had been asked to leave due to disturbances.

The boat was left in the water for a month after the incident and when detectives searched it, they reportedly found enough supplies for a long trip.

Interesting what these "disturbances" were at the Watergate Yachting Center .... wonder if they'd been panhandling or doing something to 'spook' people out ??

Sad life for those children. And if they get arrested in Mexico --- what happens to the kids ?
Maybe there are family members here in the U.S. that can help them ?

"We've always thought there was something wrong," said Letha Cummings, who lives in San Leon.

Just posted in "Up to the minute" section... maybe that thread could be merged with this one ?

Sad what people put their kids through. And what kind of example are Donald and Karlien setting for their children ?
:moo:

I am like most here. I want those children found so they can be placed in a stable home, and become productive members of society in their adulthood. Right now, they are learning all the WRONG things to do, and that's not good. Hope they are found safe and soon!

:bump:

Don't you wonder where & how these SEVEN children spent their Christmas holidays???

  • #174
Probably on some beach in Mexico with a couple of deadbeat parents!

  • #175
They will always be looking over their shoulder and probably won't settle down for any length of time due to their paranoia.

  • #176
wow just seeing this - havent seen anything on the news regarding them, they could be anywhere

  • #177
Their best bet with such a large family is to go to a large metro city, imo.

Are any of the kids school age? Where is their education coming from? If home schooled they have to be registered and contacted at certain times.

This is what I recall being reported about the ages of the children...

Snipped from above...
...He described the children, who ranged in age from 12 to 1, as well-behaved.

Snipped from above...
......San Leon volunteer firefighters rescued the two adults and their children, aged 9, 6, 4 and 2 years old, as well as an infant.

This actually depends on the state.
