I'd really like to see that other video because apparently both officers fired their gun. It seems quite plausible to me that both officers were reacting to something the public video doesn't show. I'm trying to think of other reasons and I've come up with a) one fired and the other reacted with a kind of reflex, would think they're trained against that though, or b) both officers had really poor judgement at the same time, or c) both officers enjoy shooting people. The video doesn't look good, but I'm on the fence.

FWIW in the Jessica H case, the explanation for both officers firing in the final analysis was a). Not wishing to detract from this thread though by further discussing JH.

Interesting.

The situation on Monday grew surreal when Matt Beebe, a conservative Republican who challenged state Rep. Joe Straus in the 2012 and 2014 GOP primaries, tweeted that he was “very dismayed” by the social-media attacks on KSAT. The Sheriff’s Office responded to Beebe by saying, “As a prospective lawmaker, we hope you’d do your homework before making comments.”

The Sheriff’s Office later deleted the tweet.

“The public is increasingly skeptical of law enforcement,” Beebe told me Thursday. “That’s a tragedy, but it is the reality we live in. So when the law enforcement leadership lets stuff play out in ways that cause more skepticism, it’s just unwise.”

As this story unfolds, it’s important to remember that pushing for greater public scrutiny doesn’t make you anti-law-enforcement. It makes you pro-transparency.

I'm searching for a transcript but haven't found one yet. I did find an article about another press conference she did though.

Detention deputy Termaine Elliott, 22, faces charges of bribery and possession of a controlled substance in a corrections facility, Sheriff Susan Pamerleau announced Friday at a news conference.

But doesn't this also happen in real life all the time? Not in every case and sometimes the threat is too severe, of course. While I have been dismayed by the actions of some police that have been spotlighted lately, I do believe that the majority of them seem to confront serious situations with good judgement and only shoot if they have to. Ordering someone to drop something/show their hands etc. is common practice - officers always must be wary of the presence of a weapon, but most seem to get the situation under control and assess it even under pressure. So many of these things happen every day - and then we have these headline making cases and people keep talking about what cops 'have' to do. These cases are not the norm. Most cops don't seem to feel they have to behave that way to do their jobs and stay safe. People do sit in their chairs and pass ridiculous judgments on what they could have done differently, but most cops don't seem to find these situations that confusing to navigate. Scary, I'm sure, but not confusing. People get so hyped up and the media encourages it and it becomes a total mess. It's not attacking the police to hold them to a high standard, be suspicious of authority and power, and be upset by questionable uses of force. I believe most officers meet these standards and should proudly exemplify the precise judgment expected of them, distancing themselves from those who do not, but not showing outrage at being questioned. Most can answer those questions with good justifications for their actions in such incidents.

Thank-you Matt Beebe. Unable to read full article - not a subscriber - so thank-you to IzzyB for posting that portion of the article.

Wanting greater public scrutiny of LE does not make one anti-law-enforcement - people want transparency to ensure all is well and stays well with LE. Hopefully people will not have to defend the incorrect accusation of anti LE in the future. Whew!

Henry said Flores had a knife in his hand as police officers investigated a domestic disturbance call at the family's San Antonio home. Flores' wife had been injured earlier and the 911 call was warranted, Henry said. But Flores hadn't used a knife against her, the attorney added.

Henry also said a report that a baby had been injured was inaccurate.

I was pretty certain the child had not been injured after listening to Sheriff Pamerleau in her first presser. Her words were '.. appeared to have possibly been injured'. This is after saying the mother of the child had definitely been injured with a cut to her head - so fail to see any reason for Pamerleau to know for certain the status of the child during the same presser. It's her job to know when speaking.

Imo, she was trying to garner public outrage against Mr Flores and rally support for the deputies that shot him before the provable facts come out. Nasty way to do LE business.

Also from the article posted...."Flores had previous run-ins with the law. He was cited for possession of marijuana in 1995, criminal trespassing and aggravated assault in 1999, and aggravated robbery in 2003."

The Sheriff's initial response on Monday, when a full version of KSAT-TV's video was published online included a Facebook post that included the TV station's phone number and encouraged its followers to "call KSAT and let them know what you think."”​

The attorney is working for a specific client; the Sheriff is supposed to be working for everyone.

I hold LE to a higher standard.

JMO.

What statement from Henry so far would support he is trying to garner public opinion for his client? So far, Mr Henry has not publicly stated maybe this, maybe that. Only reading facts from him to this point. Pamerleau should lead with regard to facts, or at the very least follow suit. Jmo.
