COLORADO CITY, Texas -- Billie Dunn, the mother of missing teenager Hailey Dunn, admitted Friday that she lied to police on Thursday, prompting her arrest.

Billie Dunn, after spending about 19 hours in jail, admitted to several reporters that she lied when law enforcement officers came to her house looking for Shawn Adkins, her former live-in boyfriend.

She was released about 1:45 p.m. Friday, after her mother paid about $650, or 10 percent of the bonds of $6,500 that were set by a judge earlier Friday.

Friday, 4:30 p.m. Update:
Authorities confiscated electronic items from the home where suspect Shawn Adkins lives in the Scurry County community of Dunn. They were serving a search warrant out of Scurry County.

A second search warrant, served Thursday evening at the home of Billie Dunn, was a warrant for Adkins' body, signed by a Howard County judge. According to Mitchell County Sheriff Patrick Toombs, they were looking for an item Adkins commonly carries with him. He did not have it on him, Toombs said.

Authorities say it's too early to tell if additional child was discovered in the search of Shawn Adkins' grandmother's home in Dunn Thursday evening.
Mitchell County Sheriff Patrick Toombs says a number of electronic devices were removed from the home. Those devices will be sent for testing.

Toombs says this is the third search of the home in Dunn, Texas. He said the second search was consensual. Toombs noted was discovered in the second search, but he couldn't confirm it to be child . Toombs says the images are in the process of being analyzed.

COLORADO CITY - Court documents obtained by NewsWest9 say that more and possible child has been found on another computer that Shawn Adkins had access to.

The affidavit was submitted by a Garza County Sheriff's Office Investigator who is helping work on the case. The investigator states he found and possible child during a search of a computer Adkins had access to at his grandmother's house in Dunn, Texas, which just north of Colorado City.

The affidavit confirms earlier reports that child was found at Hailey's mother's house and on a computer at Adkin's mother's house in Big Spring. In fact, the documents say and images of deviant acts has been found on every electronic device connected to Adkins that has been searched by law enforcement.

Standing on her front lawn, the newly released Dunn was quick to shift the focus from her arrest to her daughter.

"Nobody seems concerned with that. Nobody seems concerned with [the fact] that I have a kid that's missing, and has been missing, and nobody's found her. They're [law enforcement] more worried about getting a case closed and pinning it on somebody, I guess," lamented Dunn.

After fielding more questions, Dunn finally said, "I'm going inside," and slammed her front door behind her.

Billie Dunn, whose 13-year-old daughter has been missing since last December, says she has a protective order against Shawn Adkins, her former live-in boyfriend and the only named suspect in Hailey Dunn's disappearance.

Community Reacts to Teen's Disappearance and Mom's Arrest

COLORADO CITY--Many in the community were more than willing to give NewsWest 9 their two cents worth, just hours before Billie Dunn got out of jail.

The quiet little town of Colorado City is still shaken by the events unfolding since December. Billie Dunn's arrest was just another thing to talk about at the water cooler or even the neighborhood grocery store.

Residents NewsWest 9 spoke to all have their own opinions, regardless of how long they've lived in Colorado City.

Dunn denied being in possession of a dangerous drug, but officers reported finding a pill bottle without a label on it during Thursday's search. Toombs said narcotics that required a prescription were discovered in the bottle.


Since reporting her daughter missing on Dec. 28, Dunn has said several times that she has severed ties with Adkins. However, Toombs said the two have been seeing each other off and on.

On Friday, Dunn denied reconciling with Adkins, but said she communicates with him.

When asked whether she was questioned by investigators while in custody, Dunn said she was but declined to elaborate. She then ended the interview.

According to Toombs, law enforcement officials were looking for Shawn Adkins Thursday when serving the warrants, and Dunn lied to officers when they asked if she knew where he was. Adkins, the only named suspect in the case, was discovered to be in Dunn's home at the time of the search.

Adkins' status as a suspect has not changed, and when asked if Dunn had also been named as a suspect, Toombs replied, "No, but her arrest and everything that happened yesterday does not help her cause."

Billie Dunn said investigators found disturbing messages about her in Adkins' cell phone Thursday. She didn't wish to go into detail, but described the content as "threatening."

Dunn said Adkins can't come on her property for a year under the order she filed Friday.

"He made threats against me. I don't think he sent them anywhere. They were just on the memo pad...I got scared and I didn't want him to be able to come over here at all anymore," she said.

Friday afternoon Dunn invited CBS 7 into her home to discuss the arrest.

She said she did not want Adkins to be at her home Thursday and when authorities arrived she didn&#8217;t know what to do.

Adkins is the lone named suspect in the disappearance of 13-Year-Old Hailey Dunn.

Dunn&#8217;s mother Billie, says she wants the focus of the public and the media to be less on her and more on the search for her daughter.

Many are questioning missing Colorado City teen Hailey Dunn's mother's decision to cut off contact with her boyfriend, Shawn Adkins.

Billie Dunn filed a no-trespassing order against Adkins, the only named suspect regarding her daughter's disappearance, on Friday after spending the night in jail.

Dunn was arrested Thursday when police came to her home to carry out a search warrant on him and she lied and said he wasn't there.

Hope for Hailey volunteer Stephanie Boyd said she's wary about the timing of Dunn's decision to cut ties with her boyfriend.

"Why, almost three months after your 13-year-old daughter goes missing? Why not do it that first day," Boyd questioned on Sunday.

Hailey's Mother Hires Attorney, No Longer Speaking to Media

Just a few days after the mother of Hailey Dunn claimed to have cut off ties with her former boyfriend and the only named suspect in her daughter's disappearance, law enforcement says the pair met in Scurry County over the weekend.

Billie Dunn tells KRBC's Jessica Reyes she has hired an attorney and is no longer able to speak with the media.

Dunn was scheduled to do an interview with Reyes at 3 p.m Monday and canceled.

Investigators also searched Adkins' grandmother's residence in Dunn Thursday. Toombs says officials are analyzing devices seized from the home.

"Once we come up with what was on that stuff, then there could be either future search warrants or possibly arrests, either in the missing person case on Hailey Dunn or on the child case," he said.

Mitchell County Sheriff Patrick Toombs said Monday that Billie Dunn was made aware of threatening messages found on items taken from Adkins during the execution of the search warrants.

Toombs said Dunn filed a trespass warning against Adkins on Friday, barring him from her property for a year.

Toombs also said he had received information that Dunn and Adkins were seen together in Snyder on Saturday, a day after she filed the trespass warning against him.
