GUILTY TX - Haruka Weiser, 18, found murdered, UT-Austin campus, 3 April 2016 *Arrest*

So, basically I watched the same video as the campus police and they thought Criner was a student and I thought he was a vagrant...

Is something wrong with me? :gaah:

Maybe? Hopefully getting Criner's DNA in the system will provide multiple hits that Austin got the right guy! I don't think it is unusual, however, to have 2 or more rapists/killers working the same city at the same time. Derrick Todd Lee and another guy were killing women at the same time. Only difference is Derrick Todd Lee was targeting home owners, and the other guy (his name escapes me) was targeting hookers. I do believe at one point Baton Rouge PD thought they were looking for 1 guy. Maybe we have a Louisiana local that is more informed than I about Lee and the murders.

Thank you to everyone for all of the informative posts! I am so happy Haruka's murderer was so quickly identified and taken off the streets. I have to say, this case has left me with a broken heart especially since she reminds me so much of Jodi Sanderholm (another dancer killed by a pervert) and I am again so angry a monster decided to take such a beautiful life. I will never understand how someone can take another life in anger let alone because of their own perverted beings snuff out an innocent young woman. :maddening:

Wonder i the suspect knew Haruka was a dancer, and if he initially coveted her clothing and shoes?
imo, speculation.

Wow, Criner had been in school as recently as a couple weeks ago and was reported as missing/runaway on 3/24:
Several students and faculty members tell KXAN he was a student at Ellison High School in Killeen and he walked out of school around two weeks ago.

Killeen police say someone filed a missing person report on Mar. 24.

Knowing this it doesn't sound like it's correct to call him 'homeless' as he sounds more like a runaway who had been gone for a few days, not someone who had been living on the streets for an extended period of time. He had a home and a school to return to and had only just left.

You think he saw her in her dance outfit? Or he wanted the Doc Martins? One of the shoes was found burned, correct? Interesting theory. It is too late for him to become a dancer now, but if this was an interest he could have pursued earlier - maybe he would be headed in a different direction now? He probably would have been a fantastic dancer with the proper training and attitude and drive... I'm sure he was expected to play football.

What would he need her shoes for? No way her shoes would fit him.

I thought the grandmother said he had been gone since August?

No, that's a for sure, but maybe a shoe fetish? I dunno! Maybe to sell?

If it were her shoes he was after, he could have easily taken them without killing her.

I know she said that his family hadn't seen or talked to him since he left home in August, but maybe he was in foster care since he was enrolled in school. It's confusing. IMO

His face is now up on

www.KVUE.com

According to family he "suffered from mental issues"... well of course, so here we go.... Fact: He had the ability to attack and assault and murder a defenseless woman, wonder why he didn't pick someone his own size? He had the ability to steal her stuff including her bike. Mental issues meaning what then, anger, rage, envy ?

Very true. There is no logical reason that Haruka had to be killed by Criner. Her death was senseless and needless. smh :notgood:

I am sad for all involved , 17 and homeless is sad to begin with , and this beautiful young college ballerina ....the headline is enough to make your head spin as it is .:( I have nothing useful to say but I am so, so sorry for her family .

According to Austin PD, he was homeless because he chose to be. He made bad choices, and didn't want to get work and support himself. He went out looking for trouble, IMO.

I don't think any 17 year old really chooses to be homeless.
