Fate sometimes moves like an unstoppable train, doesn't it... many families, if not most, have that one relative that they wish would change, or something could be done about...

But sometimes, nothing can be done to mitigate, what was already set in motion, long before anyone realized the horror to come.

And even once it it becomes apparent, that a problem exists, it is often completely out of the control of both the people who wish to help and the person with the problem.

Really what Solutions are there for Human Nature? We are a destructive lot...

You often see this in public figures and celebrities... Whitney Houston comes to mind... she had access to the very best the world had to offer in Mental Health Resources and Addiction Services, but there was just no stopping that train...

This tragedy seems to have been set in stone long before either of these young people were ever born.

We all want answers to unanswerable questions, why did this happen? How did this happen? How can we make sure it never happens again?

Sometimes there are no answers.

Well, we can't make sure it doesn't happen again. Our society can't make sure a prostitute doesn't kick out 5 babies of fathers she doesn't know, and palms them off to her mother who is no better at raising them than she would be. It will happen again, and again, and again, as long as there are people who have no morals whatsoever. I don't know why CPS is being blamed for his. His own mother created this, and his grandmother made it worse, and CPS did what they could. Thankfully, the one shining light is his sister who seems to be doing very well and will survive the terrible odds she was dealt.

http://www.mystatesman.com/news/news/haruka-weiser-victim-of-strangulation-sources-say/nq4dn/

"A University of Texas student killed on campus last week appears to have been sexually assaulted and was the victim of strangulation, based on preliminary evidence gathered by detectives, according to several law enforcement officials familiar with the investigation."

I'm just so angry. Who knows how many lives she would have touched, positively, had she lived to old age. She touched a LOT of lives even in her youth. Until this worthless piece of trash raped and strangled her and threw her body in a creek.

And all these trash who contributed to this evil are to blame - and his sister struggles to go on with her own positive life in light of all this. Prayers she is able to wrestle herself free.

I am sorry I could not post more from that article. I only received this on my phone. This is my first post. My husband and I are professors at UT. This event has really shaken us, as well as many other faculty, staff, and students. There were many questions I wanted to answer earlier but just now was approved to post.

I am so sorry such a horrific crime has intruded to threaten the sense of safety and well being for everyone on campus. Haruka seems to have been such a light and promising young woman. Just a horrible situation to have thrust upon everyone at the university.

What I've been unsuccessfully trying to figure out is what type of path was used in Waller Creek, like if there is paved path down there and how 'official' it is. I understand there is some type of path and I hear comments from people there who have described their use of it, but I don't know what you'd be going to from the drama building to cross the bridge and then walk onto. It seems like with how Waller Creek is now that it's a dangerous area in that it is easily accessible while at the same time being secluded and unlit, so it seems like as a matter of public safety the school should either make it more inaccessible by fencing portions of it off or making it well lit and otherwise built up with cameras and patrols. Colleges have to operate on the assumption that freshmen (as well as older students) can be naïve, so if something is unsafe they could do it out of naiveté not realizing the danger, which a creek through the middle of campus is asking for trouble.

A number of court cases have addressed this where it's very hard to both force people into treatment and it is even harder to force them to take their medications.

Oh my god a bunch of cra*. Had one. All we wanted (and there were financial resources avail) was him to yes, be forced to be andminstered a monthly injectable. He , like a lot of schzophrenics, do reasonably well when they take their meds. Better IMO than depressives. "Good" is relative here. It is better for someone suffering with schzophrenia to be , well basically, pretty sedated, as opposed to running to the expressway chasing an 18 wheeler that is the devil. IMO

IMO Obviosuly they do not like that feeling, quit taking them, and basically end up invol committed for 72 hours, where they drug the he#l out of them, so they can be dced and get a new bed for the next sufferer. Thats how it works. When private insurance is involved, you had 23 hours or go through &&&& to get another 23 hours authorized. The person is seeing and hearing things, takes about 4 hours to admit , then they go to (there Jesus at that time) they do not need one hour of group therapy. Billable. But the hospitals can bill for "admit" process. I hated hated that setting. You would have a person that was there 8 days ago, got drugged, dced,(billable). It takes about 3-4 days for the schiz meds to diminish (shorter than depression) . So in 5 days they are back to being Jesus. Every admit has a "psycosocial". Hospital billable. IMO

That is needed and fine for a depression, bipolar anxiety etc. Someone who is Jesus, really is not going to be able to discuss his/her childhood. Give me a break. Billable. Not doing anything to help the poor person. So now after all this cr%p, they have 18 hours left, Throw in a shower two meals, a ten minute visit with a pschiatrist , a group, and it time to start discharge paperwork. Billable by hospital.

Out they go , (street) until next week or so. Rinse and repeat. If the whole game would realize , with shchz , its a heck of a lot cheaper to pay for injectable (once a month!!) than it does to rinse and repeat the above cycle. Their quality of life , even on the street is far better because their brains are quieter. IMO This is how it was up 2005. I retired.

Ha MzOpinion8d : I read your great post after I posted this - you are smarter than I becasue I am piss%d now. You were smart to end your post !!!! I shudder (I dont wanna know!) what it is like now. When I started, typical length of stay was 3-5 weeks (inpt). And yes they were able to stay out much longer. If they could get through the side effect profile much more likely that will take them longer . They can "remember " to take them , or not accidently take too much . They were stabilized before being Dced. Its not a fix. Its about quality of life, for both the pt and the family members.

She had five kids, not four, from what has been reported.

Oh gosh. I'm missing one then. In the sibling photo there were 4 of them - maybe that excluded the kidnapped one?

I guess that depends on when exactly he was kidnapped.

links please. I have been at work all day and dealing with kids most of the night. Reads like I missed a lot. Mom's history, the siblings of the accused? TIA

Well, in case of attempted suicide, why would a daughter think that a mother is dead?

I have absolutely no clue, especially with these "family" dynamics. Talk about dysfunction.

:stop:

Let me be perfectly clear.

There will not be sleuthing of MC's family. There will not be bashing of his family members. You may discuss statements made by family members to the media about this case. The person that is accused and charged with this crime is Meechaiel Criner. If his upbringing is a topic during trial we will discuss it in the broader sense, but not before then.

The accused is alleged to suffer mental health issues. You may discuss that and how it may affect his prosecution and sentencing or how it may have affected how he behaved before, during and after the crime. We will not be solving the larger issue of the shortfalls of the mental health crisis (MOO) in this country, so we will NOT try to in this thread, which is about the crime committed against a ,seemingly lovely, vivacious, young woman.

Understand, I am not saying this young man's upbringing and mental health did not help to form who he was the day Haruka Weiser had the misfortune to cross his path. What I am saying is, tighten it up in here or we will need a longer break than the ten minutes it just took me to remove some posts that had no business here.

Please thank this post to indicate you have read it.

Oops. Sorry. This is about my post. Everything I posted has been in articles, but I won't post any further info. I was not suggesting anything bad about any of them.
