"Kidd, who's currently in Kansas, said her 46-year-old brother Jeremy Glen Carnes had been homeless and battled mental health and substance abuse issues, but was a kind person to his friends and community. He leaves behind two children, ages 22 and 18.
The family said Carnes was hospitalized just two days before his death after being attacked. Kidd believes the same person may have been responsible for his killing.
Carnes spent much of his childhood in Brazoria County before moving frequently as an adult. The family and community are now searching for his missing dog, an Australian Cattle Dog named Cross."
Jeremy’s cause of death has been ruled as “undetermined”. His family believes it was homicide and possibly multiple people involved.

Kidd said her brother was deathly afraid of fire since an incident as a child, and, initially, HPD told us suicide appeared to be impossible given the circumstances.
The family suspects multiple people may have been involved in whatever happened to Carnes.
Kidd said her brother's dog, which was eventually located after his death, has since had puppies that are being shared amongst the family as a way to remember Carnes.
